It’s been hot lately 😵 On days like this, I recommend the “Hasu Soft Serve”❗️ The soft serve, faintly green from lotus powder, isn’t overly sweet and becomes something you suddenly crave during this hot season☆ You can enjoy the Hasu Soft Serve at Hoyattei inside Roadside Station Minami-Echizen Sankairi! Here are some recommended experiences. In Urahorocho, where forestry thrives, charcoal burning has been practiced for about 100 years. At one of the few remaining charcoal kilns in Japan, you can hear stories about charcoal from the producers and experience traditional Japanese techniques and culture. On this tour, you will visit shrines that convey Japanese history and culture, learn proper worship from a kannushi (Shinto priest), and after praying draw omikuji fortune slips and enjoy a tea ceremony as a form of Japanese hospitality. You will also take part in mochi-tsuki, the traditional ritual of pounding mochi offered to the gods, making and eating anko mochi (mochi with red bean paste) and ozoni (mochi soup) yourself. Mochi-tsuki is a Japanese ritual of giving thanks to the gods and receiving their blessing; because it is a cooperative activity done by several people, it also offers a chance to strengthen bonds among family and community. In the afternoon, you will try charcoal burning. In Japan, charcoal has long been produced by carbonizing wood using traditional techniques. Cooking over charcoal enhances the sweetness of ingredients and makes food more delicious. Charcoal also has other benefits, such as adsorbing impurities to purify water and removing odorous substances to deodorize. On this tour, you will taste the deliciousness of ingredients cooked on a charcoal barbecue. We want visitors to meet producers they would not normally encounter, learn about their thoughts, and experience the region’s culture and food. We hope these experiences lead to new discoveries and perspectives, helping people live healthier, richer lives. If you are interested, please apply at the following URL. #010 Long time no post!! Today I’ll introduce Tsuno Town’s fireworks display and river festival, held on Friday, August 22. Tsuno Citizens’ Fireworks Display Organized by the Tsuno Citizens’ Fireworks Display Executive Committee, this show launches from rice fields where the harvest is finished. No specific viewing areas are designated, so many watch from the concurrently held river festival site, while others enjoy clear views from farther away. The fireworks look different depending on where you watch, and about 3,000 shells will light up the night sky over Tsuno. The highlight is that you can look down on the fireworks from the hillside parking lot of Tsuno Winery. Why not come for a fireworks experience you can’t usually have? Date: Friday, August 22, 2025 Time: From 8:00 PM TEL: 0983-25-5501 (Tsuno Winery) If it rains, the event will be postponed to Sunday, August 24. Tsuno Town River Festival Held at the same time as the Tsuno Citizens’ Fireworks Display, this river festival is organized by the Tsuno Chamber of Commerce and Industry Youth Division. Food stalls line the Tsuno River Fureai Street beside Tono Shrine, and the event features plenty of fun stage programs for children. Date: Friday, August 22, 2025 Time: 3:00 PM–9:00 PM TEL: 0983-25-0200 (Tsuno Chamber of Commerce and Industry) Parking: Please use Roadside Station Tsuno. On the day of the event, Tsuno Winery and the area around Tono Shrine are expected to be crowded with cars and visitors from about one hour before the fireworks launch. In the nature trail of Asahidake Onsen town, traces of a brown bear (💩) were found. These signs can be seen in this area every year, but this is the first confirmation this summer. Many people enjoy walking this trail, but it sees fewer visitors than Sugatami Elua and, in particular, the spot where signs were found is some distance from the road. 📣 When walking the trail, please note the following: ・Avoid going alone. ・Carry a bear bell and bear spray. ・Refrain from traveling during dim hours such as early morning or dusk. If you find any traces, please report them to the Asahidake Visitor Center. - Asahidake Visitor Center - TEL: 0166-97-2153 (9:00–17:00) We appreciate your cooperation to ensure a safe walk.

Summer calls for this hearty steak bowl!😋 Thick layers of beef steak completely cover the rice, so you can’t see a grain! You can enjoy this talked-about steak bowl at Oshokujidokoro Nagadote in Minamihatajiki‑cho, Miyoshi City. The beef used is Tokachi Wakagyu(R), a branded cattle from Hokkaido. Only steers are served here. They are low in fat with a tender texture.😊 They sear high-quality meat boldly and season it with homemade steak sauce. The savory sauce is poured generously until the meat gleams, whetting your appetite! The rich sauce clings just right, spreading the juicy flavor across your mouth. "They pile it so high you can’t see the rice!" "It looks exactly like the photos!" — it’s been a hit on social media. Many visitors are amazed by its volume and taste. The rice is 100% from Kamisugi in Miyoshi City. Vegetables for small side dishes and salads also come from local farmers. They actively use Miyoshi’s fresh, delicious ingredients. Nagadote is run by second‑generation owner Mr. Takemoto. He wants guests to be delighted when they come. With that single-minded dedication, he spares no effort in preparation and even pays close attention to how each piece of meat is grilled — a key reason for the great taste. To ensure smooth service, customers choose their menu before entering. You place your order first, then take a seat. Since social media became popular, more customers have come after seeing the photos. They attract diners from inside and outside the prefecture and even international travelers. Beat the summer heat with Nagadote’s top pick — a stamina-packed meal! Oshokujidokoro Nagadote @nagadote Address: 859-4 Minamihatajiki‑cho, Miyoshi City, Hiroshima Prefecture Open: Wed, Thu, Fri, Sat, Sun, and national holidays Closed: Mon, Tue (occasional irregular holidays; please check Instagram) Hours: 11:00–14:00 Phone: 0824-63-6452 Other: Reservations are not accepted. Prefectural Nature Park Utsue 48 Falls 3235-51 Utsue, Kokufu-cho, Takayama-shi, Gifu Prefecture It was hot, so I went out to cool off. A number of large and small waterfalls appear one after another, and you will never get tired of walking. Slope is steep in some places, but there are no dangerous places, and there is no problem if you wear comfortable shoes. It is recommended for a little walking. It's more beautiful than when I came... Toilets and trash cans are not available. At the kiosk at the entrance, bring a drink.

A Long-Awaited Hike up Mt. Shiraiwa 👟 From the 13th to the 17th, the town road Hon’yashiki–Hagisen reopened to regular vehicles, so I left my car at Gokasecho Highland Ski Area’s Ski Center and hiked up Mt. Shiraiwa 💪 Because the management road up to the ski area still prohibits ordinary cars, I first headed on foot for the Gobobatake trailhead ✨ About 30 minutes after starting, I reached the Gobobatake trailhead 💡 From there I set off on my long-awaited hike up Mt. Shiraiwa 😊 The trail was rough at first, but it was generally easy to walk and the cool weather made the climb comfortable ✨ At the summit I exchanged valuable information and learned about conditions on nearby peaks 👍 The photos show an asagi-madara butterfly and alpine wildflowers I encountered along the way 🥰 It felt great to hike Mt. Shiraiwa again and it was a refreshing experience 😆

During the summer, a Taiwanese student staying in Tateyama experienced the Tateyama Bay Fireworks Display. We received some lovely photos, videos, and impressions from them, and we’re pleased to share them here! Xiangyun’s impressions The Tateyama fireworks festival was incredibly exciting. I was astonished that Japanese fireworks last for a whole hour, whereas major events in Taiwan—such as New Year’s Eve—only last about five minutes; that contrast surprised me greatly. What sets Tateyama’s fireworks apart is that they are launched over the sea, creating a vast spread that blooms everywhere at once, so you don’t know where to look; it felt fresh and spectacular. Watching from the sand, with most people lying back comfortably, was very pleasant. I was swept up in the romantic atmosphere of the moment and felt that the Tateyama fireworks festival contained everything needed for romance. The festival food stalls heightened the dreamlike mood, their colorful displays and rich aromas making everything tempting. There were many takoyaki vendors, and I ended up buying a box to taste. The vendors were very kind and warm toward me even though we couldn’t speak the same language, which touched my heart. Walking around made me smile naturally, and those delicious flavors made the night even more unforgettable. The Tateyama Fireworks Festival is truly exhilarating. I was amazed that Japanese fireworks can last for a whole hour, especially compared to major celebrations in Taiwan—like New Year’s Eve—that only last about five minutes. This difference really shocked me. What makes the Tateyama fireworks special is that they explode over the sea, creating a vast display that bursts in all directions at once, making it hard to know where to look. It’s both novel and spectacular. Watching from the beach, where most people lie down comfortably, adds to the relaxing atmosphere. The romantic mood at that moment is intoxicating, as if the Tateyama fireworks festival embodies all the elements needed for romance. The food stalls at the festival add to the dreamlike feeling, with their colorful displays and enticing aromas making everything tempting to eat. There were many takoyaki (octopus ball) vendors, and I couldn’t resist buying a box to try. The vendors were very friendly, warmly interacting with me despite the language barrier, which made me feel especially welcomed. As I strolled around, I found myself smiling unconsciously, and the delicious tastes made the evening even more unforgettable. The Tateyama fireworks festival thrilled me. I was shocked that Japanese fireworks can last up to an hour, compared with Taiwan’s major celebrations—like New Year’s Eve—that last only about five minutes. The special thing about Tateyama’s fireworks is that they bloom over the sea, covering a wide area and exploding in every direction at once, leaving you unsure where to look; it felt both novel and magnificent. Watching on the beach, where nearly everyone lies down to view them, felt especially relaxing. The romantic atmosphere of that moment was intoxicating, as if the Tateyama fireworks festival gathered all the elements needed for romance. The stalls at the festival added to the dreamlike feeling, colorful and fragrant, making everything look tempting to eat. There were especially many takoyaki stalls, and I couldn’t help buying a box to taste. The deep green of Usa Jingu Shrine, which symbolizes "summer in Japan". In the sunlight shining through the trees, I captured the moment when my father passed through the vermilion Torii (shrine gate). This Torii (shrine gate) is the boundary between the sacred and the mundane, a symbol of purification and vitality.   Usa Jingu Shrine, the Main Shrine of the Hachiman faith, is a sacred place where my ancestors, the Karashima clan, especially Katsuotome Karashima, were deeply involved in its founding. The image of the father passing through the Torii (shrine gate) gate symbolizes the way in which the lineage and faith are passed down from generation to generation, following in the footsteps of distant ancestors.   This trip was a powerful and healing experience for me, like a large tree taking root in my heart. I was touched by the vitality of Usa Jingu Shrine in summer and the history of my ancestors, and I realized that my Roux is deeply rooted in this Great Earth. This is more than just a summer scene, it is a piece that conveys an ancient bond and inner peace.
