Untouched Hokkaido -Mizu no Kamuy Tourism Area-
Feb. 16, 2026
A walk tour on the early morning of February 14 under thin clouds with drifting snow! Through gaps in the clouds we saw the rising sun, creating a magical view♪ It was a relatively mild −13°C, but we still observed rime ice and red fox paw prints 🐾🦊♪ We even spotted an inverted frost flower emerging from a crack in the ice ❄ You can book the early morning walk tour from the following URL. ↓ https://ja.kushiro-lakeakan.com/things_to_do/19977/... ※This winter has been warm, so for safety reasons the tour route or the tour finishing time may change depending on the condition of the lake ice. Please understand. ※Depending on temperatures and other conditions on the day before the tour, the tour may be canceled for safety reasons. Please understand.

February 14th I went to Okunikko’s Lake Chuzenji to photograph the splash ice. These strange formations are nature’s artworks! I found myself chuckling as I shot them—such amusing splash ice. In the past, the cliffs at Utagahama froze like Niagara Falls, and every year I come back, hopeful, to photograph the splash ice, but that breathtaking display has only happened once and I haven’t seen it for years. Is it the effect of global warming? I’ll keep coming without giving up!

Fukujusō in Morotsuka Village ✨ Shikoku fukujusō at Mombara in Morotsuka Village, designated a Natural Monument of Miyazaki Prefecture as the southernmost wild habitat. This photo was taken on Friday, February 13. Some buds still remain, but many flowers are already in bloom! A narrow road that is difficult to pass oncoming traffic leads to the wild habitat, and you should be careful because of the risk of freezing and snow accumulation. Please take great care when going to observe them.

Fudo Falls in the Daimon area. About Fudo Falls The waterfall sits on the upper reaches of the Omosawa River. It is said to have long been a place for ascetic training, and Fudo Myoo, from whom the name derives, is enshrined beside the falls. It is also said that En no Gyōja once practiced asceticism at this waterfall. Sheer rock faces and trees surround the site, offering seasonal scenery throughout the year. About Fudo Falls (Nagawa Tourism Association website) https://www.nagawa.info/facility-spot/1981/... Please remember to open and close the deer-prevention gate along the route. Please also bring a bear bell. In winter, four-wheel drive and studded tires are required.

The plum grove within Shimin-no-mori in Fukutake is about half in bloom overall (around 50%) as of February 13, 2026. Some trees are about 80% in bloom. Because the trees do not flower all at once and older trees are mixed in, the distant view is not yet at its best. Still, if you get closer you can enjoy the charming blossoms up close. Visit on a sunny day. Location: 50-9 Fukutake Otsu, Saijo City, Ehime Prefecture 793-0036, Japan
