From March 1 to March 22, the Ban'ei Memorial Tokachi Support Project “Banba Mori” took place at restaurants across the Tokachi area, and I visited the pork bowl shop Tokachi Butadan in Otofuke Town! Ban'ei horse racing is the world’s only race held in Obihiro City, Hokkaido, where Ban'ei horses compete in strength and grit to pull iron sleds weighing up to one ton. “Banba Mori” is an event featuring limited large-size menu items that weigh more than twice the usual portion. Placed next to a regular pork bowl, it was truly impressive! 😆 When you visit Tokachi, be sure to experience Ban'ei horse racing and taste the region’s signature pork bowl. 🥰 - From March 1 to March 22, the Ban'ei Memorial Tokachi Support Project “BANBA Mori” took place at restaurants across the Tokachi area, and I visited the pork bowl restaurant Tokachi Butadan in Otofuke Town! 📍Nokonoshima Island Park, Nishi Ward, Fukuoka Prefecture Nokonoshima Island Park Fukuoka, Japan The rapeseed blossoms are in full bloom, and the contrast between the blue sky and the yellow flowers is delightful. About 500,000 rapeseed flowers reach their peak, creating a striking scene with the blue sea, sky, and yellow blooms. In autumn, the cosmos are at their best. When you reach the ferry terminal, it’s about a 10-minute ferry ride and a 13-minute bus trip. Weekdays / 9:00–17:30 Sundays and holidays / 9:00–18:30

Isehara Flower Report 2026.03.25 Here is the latest update on cherry blossoms in Isehara City. Cherry blossoms have started blooming across the city, bringing a clear sense of spring. The weeping cherry at Mishima Shrine is blooming beautifully and is now at its best. The cherry trees at Takanoyama Park have largely come into bloom, while those at the Sports Park need a little more time to reach full bloom. Also, the Ooyama cherry is not yet blooming, so we can look forward to its flowers soon.

Near Chikatsuyu Oji Shrine on the Kumano Kodo Pilgrimage Route stands the Naganose Family, whose lineage dates back to the Nanboku-chō period. In the old family garden there is a weeping cherry tree that the 19th head of the family, Rokuro Kasamori Nonagase, brought from Gion in Kyoto and planted in April 1747. It rained this morning, but I photographed the tree, which is now about 60–70 percent in bloom. If you walk the Kumano Kodo Nakahechi Course, be sure to see this magnificent weeping cherry. I think it will probably be in full bloom around this weekend.

National Historic Site Shimousa Kogane Nakano Ranch Ruins (Tokkome) --- The Shimousa Kogane Nakano Ranch Ruins are one of the pastures the Tokugawa shogunate established in the Edo period to secure a steady supply of military horses. In the northwest of Chiba Prefecture stood Kogane Pasture, to the north Sakura Pasture, and to the south Mineoka Bokujo. Each pasture was further divided; Kogane Pasture comprised five ranches: Ueno-maki, Nakano-maki, Shimonomaki, Takadadai Pasture, and Inzai Pasture. Horses inside the ranches were allowed to roam freely and lived almost as wild animals, so they were called wild horses. Once a year, these wild horses were rounded up, captured, and sorted in an event called a noma-tori. The best horses were offered to the shogunate. The facility used for this roundup is called a tokkome, and one still survives in Higashinakazawa 2-chome, Kamagaya City. The tokkome consisted of three enclosures: the capture enclosure (tokkome) for driving and catching the wild horses, the holding enclosure (tamekome) for keeping three-year-old horses, and the release enclosure (haraikome) for returning horses other than three-year-olds to the pasture. The release enclosure remains largely in its original form. As the surrounding area urbanized, this site proved a valuable ruin for understanding the shogunate’s production of military horses. In February 2007 it became the first pasture site in the country to be designated a National Historic Site. To promote the name tokkome to a wider audience, the annual Spring Maki Horse Festival is held from April through June. The first event, the Tokkome Cherry Blossom Festival, takes place on Saturday, April 4, during the cherry blossom season at Kaigara-yama Park. On that day we offer guided on-site tours of the tokkome, which are not usually open to the public, along with a small exhibition about the ranch. You can also enjoy pony rides, a stamp rally, a quiz rally, food stalls, and many other booths. Please come and join us. We look forward to welcoming many visitors.
