The composition and colors of the gradation in the sky between the snowy gulls with their wings outstretched and the first sunrise are beautiful, and we hope to preserve this ancient Japanese aquaculture landscape for future generations.
At its peak, the island boasted the world's highest population density of approximately 5,300 people, but with the shift from coal to oil as the main energy source, the demand for coal ceased, and the island became uninhabited in 1974. The island is now registered as a World Heritage site and is famous as a popular tourist spot as an "island of ruins," but in recent years it has been facing a crisis of collapse.
Gunkanjima was once Japan's most advanced island. We have chosen it as an honorable mention because we want to preserve its history forever for the future.
The vast expanse of greenery and the huge windmills, one of the largest in Japan, give the viewer a sense of the vast nature of Hokkaido from this photo.

The observatory at the site of the castle tower offers a spectacular 360-degree view of Mount Ena (one of Japan's 100 most famous mountains), the Kiso River, and the city.
The sea of clouds rising from the Kiso River creates a fantastic sight.

It is a symbol of Aritagawa Town, selected as one of the "100 best terraced rice paddies in Japan," and is also selected as one of the country's important cultural landscapes.
We chose it for the grand prize because we believe that the beautiful autumn scenery, with its rice glowing golden, is a landscape we want to leave for the future.
