Ayatori! This video was created by "Ayatori Dekita!" Fun Lessons From Baaba!" The title of the video is "[Ayatori Shapes] Cradle, Rice Field, Diamond, a Japanese Hand Drum, a Ship, and a Rope Bridge. Slightly Difficult Techniques of Ayatori for Adults [Audio Commentary] String Figures / Baaba's Ayatori" (あやとりできた! ばぁばが楽しく教えるよ」が制作した『【あやとり連続技】ゆりかご・田んぼ・川・ダイヤモンド・つづみ・船・つり橋 ちょっと難しい変身あやとり 大人向け【音声解説あり】String figures / ばぁばのあやとり). The video explains advanced level Ayatori for adults, in a slow, easy-to-understand format. Be sure to check it out! What is Ayatori? Photo:Ayatori Ayatori is a game where you make different shapes with a string looped around your fingers. It's basically the same as cat's cradle, but the shapes/names are different due to cultural differences. Ayatori is also called "Itodori" and "Chidori," in different regions of Japan. It's a very popular game played by children all over the world. It is said to have a great effect on children's intellectual development because of the use of hands and fingers and using one's imagination to think of shapes and understand how to manipulate the string. Ayatori can be played with multiple players by taking turns and transforming the string into different shapes, or it can be played solo, as shown in the video. There are also people who do magic tricks that involve ayatori. The origin and the history of ayatori is unknown, but there is a theory that it started around the Heian period (794-1185) in Japan. Unfortunately there is no proof to back this theory. Basic Techniques and How to Play Ayatori Source :YouTube screenshot This video gives an easy to understand commentary on how to make different shapes for solo play ayatori. The video starts with a single string sitting in a loop on a table. From there, Baaba teaches viewers how to hold the string, and then how to make a cradle (3:04), a rice field (5:21), a river (6:09), a diamond (9:47), a Japanese hand drum (12:46), a ship (13:20), and finally a rope bridge (14:03). This video also gives tips on how to hold the string on your fingers and how to remove it from your fingers. There are a lot of cool techniques you can learn by watching it. Some other techniques, not shown in the video, include "rubber," broom, ladders, turtles, bridges, stars, and even Tokyo tower! Rubber and broom are relatively easy to make, so these are perfect for beginners. Overview of Ayatori Photo:A parent and child playing Ayatori Ayatori is a fun game that can be enjoyed with just a single piece of string! Be sure to watch the video to learn about some cool shapes that you can practice. It's also great for kids, so if you have some little one's of your own, be sure to try it together! -

The Oniyanma: Amazing Footage of Japan's Largest Dragonfly! See It Molting and Laying Eggs in Nature...
Living Things- 1.66K plays

The Oniyanma - Japan's Largest Dragonfly! This video, titled "Oniyanma (The Largest in Japan)" (オニヤンマ(日本最大)), introduces the oniyanma, a large dragonfly belonging to the Cordulegastridae family and Odonata order. The massive dragonfly has an abdominal length of 7 cm for males and 8 cm for female. Those that inhabit Hokkaido (北海道, Hokkaido), Yakushima Island (屋久島, Yakushima), etc., have a tendency to be smaller. Their eyes are a bright emerald green color, but change color when they are made into specimens. Their body is black with a yellow pattern and fine horizontal stripe at each section. They are compared with sieboldius albardae (ko-oniyanma), but these belong to the Gomphidae family, and are different from oniyanma in that their compound eyes are placed separately on both sides of their head, and their larvae are flat and disk-shaped and live on stones at the bottoms of rivers. Oniyanma - Distribution and Habits Photo:Oniyanma Oniyanma are widely distributed throughout Japan, mainly around streams, riverbanks, outskirts of forests and mountainous areas, but they can also be seen on the plains and in urban areas when it is cooler. International visitors may be surprised to find them in urban areas because of their very large area of activity. When you find a female oniyanma, you can catch it by taking advantage of its habit of stopping its movement and hovering. Male Oniyanma consider anything that flaps its wings to be female, so if you hold a fan or other wind-producing object in front of the male, it will stop moving. If you're a bug collector, you can use this as a reference when collecting! The Life Cycle of Oniyanma Photo:Oniyama Patrol Oniyanma are carnivorous, feeding on moths, flies, and other small flying insects. Their natural predators are birds, bats, etc. They can bite humans as well, so be careful. Male oniyanma mate with females they meet while patrolling their territory. After mating, the female will go to a clean river or puddle to lay her eggs. Upon finding a suitable location, oniyanma perform a unique spawning display in which they will drop to the surface of the water while standing up and flying. You can see a female oniyanma laying eggs at 0:30 in the video. They spawn by thrusting their ovipositor into the mud in the water. Photo:An oniyama hatching Eggs hatch about 1 month after being laid, and the larvae are called nymphs. Nymphs are a translucent white with no wings and a short abdomen. They burrow into the mud to lie in wait for food to pass. When they are young, they feed on water fleas, mosquito larvae, etc., but as they grow older they begin feeding on tadpoles, small fish, etc. In addition, they feed on each other as well as nymphs of other species and, as a result, only the strong survive. It takes five years for them to become adults, and they molt about ten times before reaching this stage. Eventually, compound eyes pop out and the mouth part of the molt becomes a unique face as if they were wearing masks. Eventually, scaly wings form on their backs, and on a sunny summer day, they climb up from the bottom of the water to a stone or pile on the surface of the water and their backs split open and they emerge as adults. Immediately after hatching, their wings are white and shrunken, but over night, the black and yellow pattern appears and the wings solidify. You can amazing footage of an oniyanma molting at 0:58 in the video. After emerging as adults, they continuously feed for about a month before mating. The total life span of an oniyanma is 5-6 years. Summary of Oniyanma- Japan's Largest Dragonfly Photo:An adult oniyanma emerging Did you enjoy learning about the oniyanma, the largest dragonfly in Japan? Footage of them laying eggs is quite rare, so if you still haven't yet, be sure to check it out! -

Jigokudani Snow Monkey Park! This video, titled "SNOW MONKEY JAPAN|Jigokudani Snow Monkey Park|Monkeys in Hot Springs," introduces the tourist spot in Nagano prefecture (長野県, Nagano ken) in Koushinetsu region (甲信越地方, Koushinetsu chihou ) of Japan. The monkeys at Jigokudani Snow Monkey Park bathe in the hot springs to fend off the cold in the winter. Enjoy watching the lovely monkeys chilling out in the cold winter weather! What is Jigokudani Snow Monkey Park? Source :YouTube screenshot Jigokudani Snow Monkey Park is a popular destination for both domestic and foreign travelers. It's called "Snow Monkey Mountain" in English. The park can be enjoyed in every season, and in the fall, the leaves change to beautiful shades of red and yellow, creating a completely different atmosphere than that of the snowscapes of winter. The video shows how to get to Jigokudani Snow Monkey Park by taking the Nagano Electric Railway's Snow Monkey Limited Express (長野電鉄特急スノーモンキー, Nagano Dentetsu Tokkyu Snow Monkey) connecting Nagano station and Yudanaka station, at 0:27 in the video. It takes about 15 minutes to get to the Kanbayashi hot spring (上林温泉, Kanbayashi Onsen) parking area by bus, and about 30 minutes to get to Jigokudani Snow Monkey Park by foot. We recommend stopping at Yokoyugawa Valley (横湯川渓谷, Yokoyugawa Keikoku) on the way. You need to buy a ticket to enter when you arrive at Jigokudani Snow Monkey Park. This is shown at 3:36 in the video. Source :YouTube screenshot At Jigokudani Snow Monkey Park, you can enjoy watching a bunch of monkeys playing around. When they get cold, they hop in the hot springs for a bit to warm up. Unfortunately, if it's hot out, the monkeys won't be getting in the hot springs too frequently. That being said, we recommend visiting on colder days so you can see the adorable sight of them bathing. Monkeys Bathing at Jigokudani Snow Monkey Park Photo:Snow monkey You can watch monkeys taking a bath in the video at 4:38. A troop of monkeys bathe in the springs, surrounded by white snow. The monkeys enjoy their bath time much like people, and you can even see a mother and her child taking a bath together at 5:06. One monkey can be seen relaxing with its eyes closed at 6:30 in the video. Although there are many tourists around, the monkeys pay no mind and go on enjoying themselves. Sightseeing Around Jigokudani Snow Monkey Park The bus tour, which goes around Jigokudani Snow Monkey Park, is great for people who enjoy lively sightseeing trips. We also recommend stopping by Jigokudani Hot Spring Inn (地獄谷温泉後楽館, Jigokudani Onsen Korakukan) and Jigokudani Fountain (地獄谷噴泉, Jigokudani Funsen) as well. Shiga Plateau (志賀高原, Shiga Kougen) is another popular tourist spot in Nagano prefecture. There are cafés where you can eat lunch, cool hotels, and an art museum that you can enjoy here. It takes about 30 minutes, so we highly recommend wearing comfortable clothing. There are some rules that you need to follow as not to scare the monkeys, so be sure to check those out as well. Introducing Edo Castle! This video, titled “Edo Castle / Tokyo Imperial Palace in 1871 江戸城,” was produced by “LIT esperan.” It introduces Edo Castle through old photography. Edo Castle is said to be the “Number One” castle in Japan due to its size, the height of its castle tower, and the large dimensions of the palace. This article introduces the history of, and tourist spots around, Edo Castle ruins. Be sure to follow along with the video! Edo Castle existed until the Meiji Era (1868-1912), and so there are many photographs of it that still exist to this day. Before we go any further, take a second to look at the once magnificent appearance of Edo Castle in the video. Edo Castle: History Source :YouTube screenshot Edo Castle was a hirayama-style castle, built by Ota Dokan, a retainer of the Ogigayatsu Uesugi family, in 1457. Years later, Toyotomi Hideyoshi surrendered the castle, and during the Edo period (1603-1868), Tokugawa Ieyasu added to and renovated it. As a result, it became the largest castle in Japan. After it was used as the government center of the Tokugawa shogunate, it was handed over to the new Meiji era government in the 1st year of the Meiji Era (1868), and became the imperial palace in the 2nd year of the Meiji Era. This was referred to as “The Surrender of Edo Castle,” and “The Bloodless Fall of Edo.” In 1888, it became the Imperial Palace Castle, and in 1948 it was renamed as to "Tokyo Imperial Palace." Today, a section of the ruins of Edo Castle is still in use as the residence of the Emperor. The Places Related to Edo Castle in the Video Photo:Fujimi-yagura At the beginning of the video, a blue sky appears in the middle of Tokyo's skyscrapers. This is the center of the castle called the inner compound, and outside of that is the outer compound. You can see Asakusa Honganji, Sensoji Temple, Sakuradamon, Toranomon, Fujimi-yagura Ruins, Suidobashi, Shin-O'hashi, Sumida River, Hibiyamon, Asakusabashimon, Honmaru Otemon, Sakashita Gate, and Nishinomaru Nijyubashi from 0:38 in the video. These are popular spots that are well known even in the present day and are introduced through old photographs in the video. During the middle of the video, the last Tokugawa Shogun, Keiki Tokugawa can be seen from 2:05 and from 1:33, old maps showing the vicinity of Edo Castle, as well as blueprints of the castle tower, are also shown. Visiting Edo Castle Photo:Around Edo Castle Edo Castle is located in Tokyo's Chiyoda Ward and is about a 5-minute walk from JR Tokyo Station and Otemachi Station on the Tokyo Metro and Toei Subway lines. Parts of the Honmaru/Ninomaru/Sannomaru of Edo Castle are open to the public as the East Gardens of the Imperial Palace. Kitanomaru, is now Kitanomaru Park, and many people come here as tourists or joggers. The castle tower has been rebuilt 3 times, however, it was burned down and the plans for rebuilding it have stopped after the rebuilding of the tenshudai (the stone base). The remaining Edo Castle tenshudai can be seen even in the present day. When you visit the Imperial Palace, be sure to check out the O-bansho near the palace gates, the magnificent stone walls, the ruins of Matsu corridor, located in the inner palace, famous for its depiction in the story Chusingura. We also recommend going to see the inner palace, the ruins of Wadakuramon, the Sekishitsu (stone burial chamber), and the ruins of Chujakumon. There is also a guided tour to see the Imperial palace, so try to participate in this if you can. The Nissan GT-R This video is a promotional video of Nissan's GT-R, titled "Nissan introduces GT-R in Hong Kong." It was published by Nissan. The video was produced to celebrate Nissan's introduction of the 2018 GT-R R35 to Hong Kong. Skyline GT-R is highly popular all around the world. This promotional video shows the excitement brought about by the arrival of the latest model, which many people admire, in Hong Kong. In this article, we will introduce the appeal of the Nissan Skyline GT-R alongside the video. The Skyline GT-R Photo:Nissan The Skyline GT-R is a luxury sports car produced and sold by Nissan. The GT-R is the highest grade of Skyline produced for racing. The one shown in the video is the R35 GT-R, which was introduced to Hong Kong starting with the 2018 model. Starting with the R35 model, the "Skyline" crown has been removed and it's now the "GT-R." It's an ultra-luxury car with a price tag of over ¥10 million (~$95,000 USD), but it's one of the most popular cars in the world. Apart from the newest model, the R35, other popular models from the past, including the R32 at the beginning of the video, the R33NISMO400R at 0:28, and the R34V Spec II Nur at 0:41, are also featured in the video. The history of the GT-R dates back to the 15th Tokyo Motor Show in 1968, when the Skyline GT Racing version, a successor to the Prince Skyline 2000 GT-B, which had been active in touring car racing, was exhibited as a concept car with a Skyline 2000 GT-B body and an in-line 6-cylinder DOH engine. In 1969, the first Skyline GT-R was made commercially available based on these specifications. It has a distinctive appearance with four round tail lights. The Skyline GT-R has also been known as "Hakosuka," "Kenmeri," "R," and "Suka G-R" (in Japan). Many people were captivated by the Skyline GT-R, customizing and modifying it to their own tastes. Today, the GT-R is sold at specialty GT-R shops. Since it's a high-octane gasoline car, its fuel consumption is poor and its maintenance costs are high. However, the tires last longer than ever before and the oil change costs are slightly lower, making the car more affordable than when it debuted. The Appeal of the Skyline GT-R Photo:Nissan GTR The Nissan Skyline GT-R is one of Japan's most iconic high-performance cars. It features a dedicated engine and equipment built to maximize its power in auto racing. The R32, which debuted in 1989, is one of the most popular cars in the GT-R series, with used cars being sold abroad often. The R32 was created as the culmination of Nissan's technology, with the goal of creating a car that could win the All Japan Touring Car Championship. It was equipped with a twin-turbo RB26DETT engine and entered the All Japan Touring Car Championship in 1990. Its design gives off a proud aura and has a charm that draws you in. The Ford Sierra RS500 also participated in the championship, but the R32 was overwhelmingly fast, lapping other cars for the win. The R32 was a first-class car in terms of design, features and equipment, and its subsequent models were also built without any major changes to the design concept or basic engine settings. Summary of the Skyline GT-R Source :YouTube screenshot "Nissan introduces GT-R in Hong Kong," published by Nissan, is a video that introduces the appeal of the Nissan Skyline GT-R. It's a must-see for car fanatics as you can get a close up look at the popular GT-R series. "Raihojin," (ritual visits of deities in masks and costumes) was added to UNESCO’s intangible folk cultural asset list in 2018. Paantu and Satupunaha Source :YouTube screenshot According to the local history records, the origin of the word "Paantu" is a combination of two words "Paan"(to eat) and "Pitu" (people). Paantu is an event that takes place at the third event and it is called Paantu Satupunaha or Paantu Punaha. The first Saturday of the month is Kitanizawa Tour Day, which includes a photo and allows pets and elementary school students to accompany the tour. Feel free to sign up for this walking route, as it's a great way to capture some Instagram-worthy pictures. The crater at the top of Daisen is marked by the rim of a volcano, indicating that it was once a volcano. It's also locally called Hoki Fuji. If you fancy yourself a hike, why not try climbing to the famous Hoki Fuji Rim to see the natural landscape of Mt. Daisen? Speaking of Mt. Daisen, in winter, we recommend the Oku-Daisen Ski Resort. It's the largest ski resort in Tottori Prefecture, with 400 free parking spots. Reservations should be made early, as the resort is quite popular. Oku-Daisen Was Used for Suntory's Natural Water TV Commercials! Photo:Houki Fuji among the stars In 2017, a commercial for Suntory Natural Water, featuring world-renowned female artist Utada Hikaru, was set in Oku-Daisen, a famous mountain that is said to be the highest peak in the Chugoku region. Oku-Daisen is a place where the air and water are so clean that it is said to be a mountain of water, and the atmosphere of its mysterious forest is something straight out of an anime or some other mythological world! The numerous climbing spots capture the hearts of visitors. Okudaisen (奥大山) has a vast beech forest, where you can enjoy a panoramic view of the majestic mountains, and you can see the beautiful starry sky that Utada Hikaru sang about in the TV commercial "#Hoshi Suge" (These stars are beautiful!). The mountain stream that Utada Hikaru visited in the TV commercial is featured throughout this video, where you can enjoy the clear river water of the naturally flowing stream. If you watch the video, you might be able to feel what Utada Hikaru felt, surrounding by the natural beauty of Okudai Mountain. Mountain Climbing and Sightseeing at Mt. Daisen and Kitanizawa Stream Kofu City (江府町, Kofu cho), in Tottori Prefecture, is home to Oku-Daisen, mentioned earlier in the article. The air here is incredibly clear, making it a great place for stargazing, and many campers and photographers come here every year. In the surrounding downtown area and hotels, you can enjoy incredible gourmet cuisine, such as seafood from the Sea of Japan. Summary of Mt. Daisen and Kitanizawa Stream Hoki Daisen Station (JR West) in Yonago is a convenient way to get around, especially for trips to Mt. Daisen, home to the Kinayazawa Stream, one of the clearest rivers in Japan. We recommend using a local bus for transportation from Hoki Daisen Station to hotels, accommodations, and tourist destinations around Mt. Daisen. The highlight of this video is the Kitanizawa Stream, which is shown from 0:36 to the end of the video. The clear water flowing through the lush greenery of a mountain stream in summer, the beautiful moss on the rocks of the stream, and the beautiful sound of the river. It's a truly amazing atmosphere. The video is pleasing to both the eyes and ears. Please enjoy the beauty of Mt. Daisen and the Kitanizawa mountain stream. -

Food & Drink- 210 plays
- YouTube
Introducing the Secrets of Onigiri- The Ultimate Japanese Snack This is a video by "Japanese Food Music" that introduces Japan's tuna mayo Onigiri. Onigiri is a historical Japanese food that has been around since the Yayoi period (300 BC-250 AD). This item is loved by many people due to its simple preparation and delicious flavor. This article will talk about the secrets of onigiri’s popularity as a supreme Japanese food, as well as methods for making delicious tuna mayo onigiri as shown in the video. The Appeal of “Onigiri” as a Popular Japanese Meal Photo:Onigiri and bento Japan’s “washoku” (Japanese food) has been designated as an intangible cultural heritage. Within it, onigiri has gained popularity as a standard food product. Onigiri is also referred to as “nigiri-meshi” and “o-musubi.” As one might be able to tell by its Japanese name (握る- Nigiru, meaning to press into shape), this rice-ball food is made by holding rice and squeezing it into a triangular, cylindrical, or spherical shape. Onigiri, despite being easily made even by small children, has limitless variations in its recipes as well as a large variety of ingredients, seasonings and ways to squeeze, shape and wrap it. This is why people can eat and enjoy onigiri without ever getting bored. Onigiri is also a type of “soul food” whose ingredients and cooking methods differ in each region of Japan, so travelers in Japan might find it worthwhile to enjoy onigiri from each area of Japan that they visit. Examples of region-specific onigiri include “Tenmusu,” which is made with tempura shrimp from Aichi Prefecture, and “Pork tamago (egg) omusubi,” a type of onigiri from Okinawa which contains pork meat and fried eggs. Onigiri are sold at convenience stores, supermarkets, and set meal restaurants, and its easy access is a very pleasing point for onigiri lovers. In addition, onigiri can be easily eaten for breakfast and/or with bento box meals at lunchtime. Being a standard part of bento boxes and lunch menus, onigiri is something that virtually all Japanese people have eaten, and this is due to being familiar with this cuisine ever since childhood when onigiri was made and wrapped by their own mothers. Onigiri recipes & variations Photo:Onigiri Onigiri is a popular Japanese food that can be made solely with the most basic of cooking ingredients such as rice, onigiri fillings, salt and nori dried seaweed wrapping. The most popular type of onigiri, of course, is tuna and mayonnaise-flavored onigiri with tuna as its main ingredient. Tuna mayonnaise is well known for its use not only with onigiri but also with sandwiches and cooking bread. There are also standard onigiri riceballs such as those with bonito flakes and pickled plums, and there are even types of onigiri which involve the use of fresh seafood such as maguro tuna as well as onigiri made with fried foods. For those of you who are worried about calories, you can still enjoy your onigiri eating experience by choosing simple salted riceballs without onigiri fillings. Yet another appealing point of onigiri is how different onigiri fillings and methods of squeezing/wrapping can completely change the way we enjoy this food. Let’s Try Making Tuna Mayo Onigiri! Photo:Making Onigiri There are a variety of tricks and techniques that are necessary for preparing good tasting tuna mayo onigiri. This video presents detailed instructions on methods (recipes) for making onigiri. As shown at the beginning of this video, the number one feature of onigiri here is its preparation by cooking rice in a Japanese clay pot. Please note that this is an absolute must for making the most delicious onigiri possible! First, you put washed rice and water in the clay pot together with soy sauce, Japanese sake (rice wine), Mirin cooking wine and sesame oil. Then, after adding a proper amount of soup stock powder, we heat the pot to cook the rice. We then let the cooked rice steam for about 10 minutes, during which time we prepare the tuna mayonnaise. Canned tuna used for this part of the recipe is sold anywhere in Japan at places such as supermarkets and convenience stores. This point is explained starting at 3:49 in the video. After draining the oil out of the tuna can, mix in small amounts of mayonnaise, soup stock powder, and soy sauce. From there, tuck the tuna mayonnaise into some rice and squeeze it together gently. Although not shown in the video, you can also add salt here to further enhance the flavors of the onigiri fillings. Finally, wrap lightly roasted seaweed wrappings around the tuna mayonnaise riceball, at which point our onigiri is complete! While the nori seaweed described here is of course an important ingredient for giving the onigiri good taste, but it is also the wisdom of our ancestors for keeping the rice from crumbling in your hands and making it easier to deliver this tasty treat to your mouth! Please be sure to take a look at this video for a detailed look at this recipe. Summary of Onigiri, Japan’s Ultimate Food Item Has this article and video helped you to appreciate the appeal and popularity of Onigiri as a simple yet profound example of Japanese cuisine? This video comes with a presentation of preparation methods for some very tasty-looking Onigiri, so be careful when watching it on an empty stomach…(lol) -

The Japanese Green Pheasant: The National Bird of Japan, Its Majestic Silhouette and Bright Red Wattle Are Fascinating!
Living Things- 521 plays
- YouTube
The Wild Japanese Green Pheasant "A Family of Pheasants" (キジの一家), created by "Nyanta8355," is a video of a family of Japanese green pheasants, the national bird of Japan. Japanese green pheasants have a distinctive red wattle and its beauty catches the attention of all that see it. It has a mysterious charm, and it is even believed that they can predict earthquakes. Japanese green pheasants are a familiar species to Japanese people, as they're in the famous Japanese folk tale Momotaro (桃太郎). The video shows footage of them in the wild. The article will also introduce the Japanese pheasant, so be sure to follow along with the video as you read on! The Japanese Green Pheasants Photo:Japanese green pheasants Japanese green pheasants (Order: Galliformes, Family: Phasianidae, Genus: Phasianus) that you see in the video, are quite common in Japan, and Japanese people are very familiar with them. At the start of the video, we see a male Japanese green pheasant, which has a distinctive red wattle and colorful plumage, then at 1:38, we see a female Japanese green pheasant. As you can tell by the footage, female Japanese green pheasants are not as colorful as male Japanese green pheasants. The Japanese pheasant is the symbolic bird of Japan and has a majestic appearance befitting of the national bird. In many municipalities, the pheasant has been designated as the town bird. As mentioned earlier, the Japanese pheasant is well-known in Japan, as it was one of the characters, along with the dog and monkey, in the Japanese folk tale, Momotaro. You can also see the bird on the front of the old 10,000 yen bill, which is another reason Japanese people are so familiar with the bird. As for the size and shape of the Japanese pheasant, the overall length of the male is about 80 cm and the female is about 60 cm. Male Japanese green pheasants weigh about 0.8 to 1.1 kilograms. Males weigh between 0.8 and 1.1 kilograms and females between 0.6 and 0.9 kilograms. Ring-necked pheasants, which are widely distributed in Eurasia, are slightly larger than Japanese green pheasants. Photo:Japanese green pheasants Male Japanese green pheasants have a red wattle around the eyes, while females have brownish colored plumage. During mating season, the red wattle on a male Japanese green pheasant swells, lets out loud mating calls. Japanese pheasants make loud cries during territorial disputes. Japanese pheasants are also very wary and will often dash away if they are noticed. They also live quietly and are not very active outside of spring, so if you want to observe them, spring is the best time to do so. Japanese green pheasants mainly feed on seeds, sprouts, and leaves. In Japan, many pheasants are released in bird sanctuaries, fallow hunting areas and additive hunting areas. This takes place every year during birdwatching week and before the hunting season. The Various Types of Pheasants Photo:Japanese green pheasants Some people believe that the Japanese pheasant, an endemic species in Japan, is a subspecies of Ring-necked pheasants found in Eurasia, and the Ornithological Society of Japan and others have adopted this theory. Japanese pheasants and ring-necked pheasants are game birds, and pheasant meat is eaten for food. There are four main subspecies of pheasant distributed in Japan: The Kyushuu pheasant (kyushukiji, キュウシュウキジ) is found in southwestern Honshu, Kyushu and the Goto Islands; the northern pheasant (kitakiji, キタキジ) inhabits northern Honshu and Sado Island; the Island pheasant (shimakiji, シマキジ) inhabits Honshu, Tanegashima, Izu Oshima, Yakushima and Niijima; and the Tokai pheasant (toukaikiji,トウカイキジ) is found in central Honshu and Shikoku. Pheasants are mainly found in grasslands, rural areas, forests and flatlands, and sometimes appear in urban areas, causing damage to agriculture and other areas. Summary of the National Bird of Japan Source of photo :YouTube screenshot The video, "A Family of Pheasants," created by "Nyanta8355," shows footage of the Japanese green pheasant, the national bird of Japan! In the video, you can see the majestic Japanese pheasant in its natural habitat. The appearance of female and male pheasants is completely different, so be sure to check them out. In Japan, a cat with a pheasant pattern is called a pheasant cat! From being designated as Japan's national bird to their supposed ability to sense earthquakes, the Japanese pheasant is a fascinating animal! -

Introducing the Minohiki! This video, titled "Minohiki (Protected Species) - An Ornamental Chicken in Danger of Extinction" (蓑曳鶏(みのひきどり 国指定天然記念物 )~絶滅危機の観賞用ニワトリ~), introduces the Minohiki, a chicken bred for its beauty. The video was released by "Toyohashi Dot Television." The minohiki is characterized by its beautiful feathers, called minoge (saddle feathers), which grow from the center of its body. The origin of the name minohiki comes from the fact that the minoge grows to the point of dragging it on it on the ground (hiki meaning pull in Japanese). In this article, we'll introduce the minohiki in detail along with the video. What Kind of Chicken Is the Minohiki? Source :YouTube screenshot The Minohiki is a type of Japanese chicken that is said to have been bred during the mid Edo period (1700-1800s). It's a medium-sized pheasant, and is thought to be a cross between the long-tailed chicken, the shokoku chicken of China, and the game fowl of Thailand and is similar in build to the long-tailed chicken. It weighs approximately 2 kg. As shown at 1:35 in the video, the minohiki lays its eggs in the spring. There are several species of minohiki, including the Akazasa, Shojo, Shirafuji, Shiro, and Goshiki. Because the minohiki shed their feathers after summer, the best time to admire them is from spring to June. You can see a beautiful white minohiki at 2:24 in the video. On the Brink of Extinction? Source :YouTube screenshot The minohiki, a native Japanese species, was designated a protected species in 1940 (Showa 15). During the Showa Period (1926-1989), more than 1,500 chickens are said to have lived in the Mikawa region of Aichi Prefecture and the Enshu region of Shizuoka Prefecture. However, the number of bird lovers has declined and they are now on the verge of extinction. The Minohiki is difficult to raise individually, but you can see them at zoos and other places. Summary of the Minohiki Source :YouTube screenshot If you're interested in seeing the minohiki up close, consider dropping by The Toyama Family Park. The park currently raises minohiki. Japan is also home to many other unique types of chickens, such as Chabo (Japanese bantam), Shamo (game fowl), and Cochin. When you go to the zoo in Japan, be sure to keep an eye out for a variety of chicken species. -
