Introducing IR! This video "Understanding IR in 3 minutes", by Kato Ayako(「IR(カジノ含む統合型リゾート)」 加藤綾子【3分でわかる】)” is a news clip that talks about how Yokohama, Kanagawa has started preparing to attract IR in October 2019. The lifting of IR is explained in the video in detail, and we will explain IR in this article so you can follow along. What is IR? Source :YouTube screenshot IR stands for Integrated Resort. They have facilities such as conference halls, exhibition halls (MICE facilities), restaurants, shopping areas, hotels and even theaters. Furthermore, they can have amusement parks, sports facilities, cinemas, and warm baths as well. You can see the explanation of IR from 0:21 in the video. The “Casino Law” was established in 2018 and the Ministry of Land Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism is planning to approve up to three locations for IR, in Japan. By October of 2019, Yokohama, Osaka, Nagasaki and Wakayama had already announced their candidacy, while Nagoya, Tokoname in Aichi, and Odaiba in Tokyo are still considering the option. Pros and cons of IR Photo:Casino slots Admission fees are collected by the Japanese government divided between the government and the prefectures. Casino profits are returned to IR conference halls and entertainment facilities. This will boost tax revenue, increase tourism and generate economic benefits leading to regional revitalization. Yokohama estimated that the effect on annual revenue will lead to a growth of 80 to 120 billion yen ($743m to $1.1B USD). But there are concerns about gambling addiction, the influence it will have on the younger generation, and the deterioration of security it may cause. In order to establish IRs in Japan, measures for preventing gambling addiction are being considered. What are casinos like? Photo:Marina Bay Sands in Singapore Casinos are popular in Las Vegas and Macao. Japanese people are not familiar with casinos, but there are Pachinko parlors in Japan, so casinos are expected to become popular as well. Starting casinos will also benefit the economy through casino tax revenue which is helped by the influx of tourists from abroad. In fact, Marina Bay Sands in Singapore was able to increase the number of foreign tourists and tourism consumption in a similar fashion. This is shown in the video from 2:08. In a nutshell Photo:A casino IR is expected to become a new attraction for Japanese and foreigners alike. The video gives a great overview on IR, so definitely check it out if you found this article interesting. We recommend using subtitles if you don't speak Japanese! It will be interesting to see what new information on dates and companies is released in the near future. -

Introducing a Video on Japanese Yokai This video, titled "Yokai - The Monsters That Ward off Plagues With the Wishes of the People" (妖怪 〜疫病退散 ! 人々の願いを込めて〜), was uploaded by "Japan Video Topics - Japanese" (Japan Video Topics - 日本語). In Japan, there is a culture of yokai, Japanese folklore which believes in the existence of numerous supernatural monsters and ghosts. The yokai introduced from 0:19 are the ones that most Japanese people are familiar with. The first one is the Tengu. Tengu, who roam the mountains, are probably the most well-known yokai. Next, there's Hitotsume kozo, a monster that appears out of thin air to scare and play with people. The third yokai is Zashiki warashi, a monster that appears in the form of a child and is known as a yokai that brings prosperity to one's home. Yokai Depicted in the Past and Present Photo:An image of yokai The International Research Center for Japanese Studies has been conducting research on yokai, and one of the documents, the Hyakki Yagyo Emaki, depicts many yokai and appeared in the 16th century. As time passed, these once feared monsters became a part of Japanese people's daily life. You can see the Hyakki Yagyo Emaki at 0:48 in the video. Even today, yokai are seen in a number of different works. Gegege no Kitaro, which can be seen from 1:04 in the video, is a famous manga featuring yokai, and has also been made into an anime. In addition, there are many other popular works in which yokai appear, such as "Natsume's Book of Friends." Fukusaki, Hyogo - Revitalizing a Town Through Yokai Photo:A statue of a kappa emerging from the water, Fukusaki, Fukushima In Fukusaki, Hyogo, the birthplace of the folklorist Kunio Yanagita, author of "Yokai Story" (妖怪談義), the town is being revitalized with the help of yokai. When a statue of a kappa jumping out of a pond was installed, it attracted attention from all across Japan. On the benches of the town, visitors will find fascinating yokai sculptures, including kappa, oni, and many others. There are also some unusual and humorous yokai sculptures on display, such as a yokai relaxing on a convenience store bench, an oni taking a selfie with a smartphone, and a tengu working in a suit. Since then, the town has held the "National Yokai Modeling Contest" and sold plastic models of kappa and other yokai, leading to an increase in the number of tourists. The Many Yokai Towns of Japan Fukusai is not the only town in Japan with yokai. The town of Yamashiro in Tokushima Prefecture is known as Oboke Yokai Village, where yokai folklore is still passed down to this day. In addition, yokai have appeared in various places such as Mizuki Shigeru Road in Sakaiminato, Yokai Street in Kyoto, and in Yokaichi , Shiga, yokai are being used to revitalize towns. Amabie - A Yokai as a Symbol to Ward off Plagues Photo:An Amabie Amabie, introduced from 2:30 in the video, are yokai that are said to have appeared in the sea in Higo Province, present-day Kumamoto Prefecture, during the Edo Period (1603-1868 AD) in Japan. They are said to have predicted good harvests and warded off epidemics, saying, "If an epidemic should appear, show the people my image, that their plagues shall spread unto me," before disappearing into the sea. Amidst the difficult situation caused by the spread of the novel coronavirus, information about Amabie began to spread. The cute Amabie, a half-human, half-fish, but not in a ghost story kind of way, triggered the Amabie boom. The boom, known as the "Amabie Festival," is just as Amabie once said it would be, and people have been posting pictures and illustrations of Amabie on social networking sites. Using the hashtag "#アマビエチャレンジ" (#AmabieChallenge) it has become an internet phenomenon. Many amabie goods have also appeared, including figurines, Japanese sweets, cafe items, origami, and even coloring books. The mascot craze has become so popular that it has even made the news outside of Japan. Summary of Japan's Yokai Culture With the Amabie boom, shrines around Japan, including Gokoku Shrine in Himeji, began to hand out charms depicting Amabie to worshippers. In addition to Amabie, there are also Amabiko and Arie, yokai that are very similar to Amabie. In the past, when there was an epidemic of cholera in the late Edo Period, Amabie was also popular as a way to ward off cholera. Japan's yokai culture has been around for hundreds of years. From the distant past to the present, they continue to be a part of Japanese people's lives. -

Video Introduction Photo:A burnt mess tin This video, titled "Camping Gear Maintenance by a Solo Male Camper in His 20s Who Camps Every Week" (週一でソロキャンプする20代男子ソロキャンパーによるキャンプ道具のお手入れルーティン), was released by "Japanese campers YURUHARU." It shows how to properly clean your camping gear. After enjoying some delicious cooking in the great outdoors, your cookware will inevitably start to feel some wear. If left as is, it may become unsanitary or break and become unusable. After you're finished camping, it’s important to clean your cookware properly. Cleaning Kettles and Other Camping Gear With Sodium Sesquicarbonate Source :YouTube screenshot Use sodium sesquicarbonate to remove dirt and burnt or dry oil that has stuck to your gear from cooking when camping. Check the instructions and dissolve the sodium sesquicarbonate in hot water. Soak the camping kettle or pyramid grill in the solution for 10 to 30 minutes, then polish it with a sponge. Persistent stains are easier to remove after soaking them in the solution. Once the stains are removed, your gear will be as shiny as clean as a whistle. An Introduction to Food Models The food models, that look exactly like the real thing, are frequently seen at restaurants and souvenir shops in Japan. But have you ever thought about how they're made? The introductory video of food models is created by ANA Global Channel. It shows how artisans’ feel about food models, and their production methods. Food models are now known all over the world as modern Japanese artworks. The role of food models and how artisans make food models is explained in this article alongside the video. The Role of Food Models: A Japanese Craft Photo:Food models Food models are replicas made by artisans so that people can imagine what kind of dish is provided at the restaurant without having to enter. By displaying the replicas in show-window, people can get an idea of the food and prices. This removes the anxiety of going into a restaurant blind. It's hard to go into a restaurant you're on the fence about when you've got little to no information about it. Japanese food model artisans provide a remedy for this. Food Models Are Popular Among Overseas as Well Source :YouTube screenshot Food models are popular in both Japan and other countries due to their high- quality and wide variety of products. There are a lot of stores that sell food models on Kappa Bridge (合羽橋, Kappabashi) Utensils Street in Asakusa, Taito Tokyo. There are different kinds of merchandise such as accessories, key chains and smartphone cases as well. These are bought as souvenirs and gifts by international tourists. It is globally recognized as a modern Japanese culture and art. How Food Models Are Made Let’s see how artisans create artificial food. The method is shown after 1:35. First, they make a cast of the ingredients by pouring silicon over real food. From here, they create a model by pouring vinyl resin in the mold. After that, all that's left is to paint the model. When all the fake ingredients are created, they are combined to create a replica indistinguishable from the real thing. There are replicas of sushi, soba, pasta, and more. Food Model Trial Classes Taking the opportunity to try your hand at making a food model makes for a really fun time and we highly recommend checking it out when you come to Japan. They take about 2 hours to complete so it's not a huge time sink either. The trial class is shown in the video around 5:07. It has become very popular with foreign tourists because of its convenience. You also get to take an awesome souvenir home with you! Summary Source :YouTube screenshot This ANA Global Channel video introducing food samples made by Japanese artisans is a great way to learn more about Japan. If you like arts and crafts or are interested in food models and artisans, definitely don't miss out on the video Have you figured out which one is real yet? The quality is quite impressive. -

The Spectacular Beaches of Kouri Island, Okinawa: Video Introduction This video, titled "Superb Beaches on Kouri Island ( Okinawa, Japan ) / Spectacular Views of Japan," was uploaded by "HealingJapanTV." In the video, you can enjoy beautiful visuals and the sound of waves at Kouri Ohashi Bridge by Tinu Beach, as well as footage of Heart Rock, and more. Be sure to check it out! Kouri Island – Features of the Unique Sightseeing Spot in Okinawa, Japan Photo:Kouri Ohashi Bridge Kouri Island (Kourijima) is located in Nakijin, a village in Okinawa Prefecture, in Japan's Kyushu region. Although the island is small enough that a 10-minute drive will take you around the whole island, it's visited by many tourists each year. Kouri Island is famous for its sightseeing spot, Kouri Ohashi Bridge. It's a 2-km-long bridge connecting Yagaji Island and Kouri Island, and when it opened in 2005, it was the longest free bridge over a remote island in Japan. The blue ocean seen from Kouri Ohashi Bridge is beautiful and has been the setting for commercials, TV dramas, and movies in Japan. There is also a unique rock formation near the bridge that looks like a shisa facing to the side. Around Kouri Ohashi Bridge, there are several observatories from which you can view the bridge itself. In the video, you can see the view from the Unten Observation Deck and from the observatory in Unten Forest Park. [Video] 0:04 - Kouri Ohashi Bridge Kouri Island, also known as Kuijima (恋島) in Japanese, making it a popular power spot for couples, as the nickname literally means 'Love Island' in Japanese. With blue skies, crystal clear waters, and several beautiful beaches, it's a popular tourist spot. Kouri Island is also known as the "Island of Love" or "Island of Gods" based on a legend of the Okinawan version of "Adam and Eve," making Tinu Beach's Heart Rock a must-see tourist attraction. Heart Rock – A Famous Power Spot on Kouri Island's Tinu Beach Photo:Heart Rock, Kouri Island, Okinawa [Video] 9:12 - Heart Rock As the name suggests, this spot is popular for its heart-shaped rock, which is popular for photography. Heart Rock became popular after it was used in a Japanese airline commercial. It's famous for two rocks that overlap and look like a heart, but it's also popular for the upside-down heart that forms between two overlapping rocks. It is said that seeing Heart Rock will make one's love come true, making it a popular destination for couples. If you're planning to visit Heart Rock, we recommend going by car. From Naha Airport, take Naha Nishi Road (那覇西道路) and get on the Okinawa Expressway (沖縄自動車道) (toll-free) from the Nishihara IC (西原IC). Exit at the Kyoda IC (許田IC), the final stop on the way to Nago, and drive to Kouri Island via Yagaji Island while seeing the beautiful view from Kouri Ohashi Bridge. Both free parking lots and paid parking can be found around Tinu Beach. Kouri Island can be reached in about an hour and a half from Naha Airport. The scenery on the way to the island is beautiful, so time will pass quickly. We recommend checking high and low tide times in advance. Beautiful Beaches to Visit on Kouri Island Photo:Plums on Kouri Island Kouri Island has other beautiful beaches in addition to Tinu Beach. ・Kouri Beach Kouri Beach is a beautiful, sandy white beach with shallow waters near Kouri Ohashi Bridge. It's dotted with fashionable cafes and is popular with families with small children. [Video] 3:55 - Kouri Beach ・Tokei Beach Tokei Beach, located at the northernmost tip of the island on the other side of Kouri Ohashi Bridge, is a quiet and beautiful natural beach. It can be reached by walking along a grassy path. The water is crystal clear, and swimming is possible outside of low tide. It is small but quiet, and you can enjoy the atmosphere of a semi-private beach here. ・Peace Beach Like Tokei Beach, this is also a secluded beach. After passing through a small forest-like pathway, the view opens up to reveal the beautiful ocean. At low tide, you can walk to the outer reef. When swimming, be careful as the water may be deep in some places. Tokei Beach and Peace Beach, are two secluded beaches located side by side on the north side of Kouri Island. Must Try Foods on Kouri Island! If you're looking to try the local cuisine, Kouri Island is known for its delicious seafood. One dish you've got to try is the sea urchin donburi (uni-don) at Shirasa Shokudo. The uni-don set meal, which comes with a large helping of fresh sea urchins caught on Kouri Island, is reasonably priced at 2,000 yen! Shirasa Shokudo also offers overnight accommodations. The garlic shrimp at KOURI SHRIMP, where you can enjoy Hawaiian-style snacks, is also very popular and they even offer take out as well. We also recommend checking out local cafes where you can enjoy gourmet food while taking in the spectacular views! Cafe Fukurubi, not far from Tinu Beach, where Heart Rock is located, is also a great place where you can enter even in a swim suit. Lunch on the terrace while feeling the ocean breeze at this stylish and fashionable café makes for a wonderful experience. Be sure to take a photo with the ocean in the backdrop during your visit. It's popular on Instagram for being photogenic! Summary of Kouri Island, Okinawa Photo:Heart Rock, Kouri Island, Okinawa Kouri Island is so small that it can be circled in about 10 minutes by car. Also known as 'Love Island,' the island has a legend an Okinawan version of "Adam and Eve," and is visited by couples from all over Japan. Another interesting feature is that the shape of Heart Rock changes depending on the angle from which you view it. Be sure to try viewing it from different angles! Snorkeling and other marine activities can be enjoyed in the beautiful waters of Kouri Island, but since the island is crowded during tourist season, we recommend making reservations in advance. Also, the view from the Unten Observatory and Kouri Ocean Tower, which opened in 2013, is a must-see. Be sure to stop by. Even if you're staying at a hotel on the main island of Okinawa, you can easily visit the island via car. If you want to see the nature and waters of Kouri Island, or if you want to try delicious sea urchin bowls or garlic shrimp, definitely check it out! If you still haven't yet, be sure to check out the video as it gives you a good idea of what you can expect on the island. 【TripAdvisor】Kouri Island https://www.tripadvisor.com/Tourism-g14139570-Kouri_jima_Nakijin_son_Kunigami_gun_Okinawa_Prefecture-Vacations.html -

Itoman city is also famous as a fishing village, with many fishing traditions being passed down for generations. Itoman is an area dotted with sugar cane fields and beaches with beautiful views of the ocean. Charming villages covered with red tile roofed houses typical of Okinawa add to the beautiful scenery here. Sabini are fishing boats used in the Tempuku Bare competition which is part of the biggest event held in Itoman city, the Itoman Hare. Tempuku Bare is a competition where as a team you attempt to flip over your overturned Sabani boat and row it to the finish line. It is used as a test of the village fishermens' boat skills, but don't worry, as a tourist you won't have to flip over any Sabani boats during your experience! Rowing your own Sabani with the cool wind brushing against your face is an exhilarating experience! You can see this at 2:15 in the video. After reading this article, you'll be captivated by Ogimi Village and will want to experience what life is like in this village in Northern Okinawa! Ogimi Village – One of the Three Yanbaru Villages in Northern Okinawa Ogimi Village, located in the northern part of Okinawa's main island in Kunigami, consists of 17 villages with a total population of 3,034 and a total of 1,716 households (as of March 2023). The village is about 64 square kilometers (15,800 acres) in size. Ogimi is approximately 87 km (54 mi.) from Naha City and can be accessed in about 2 hours via National Route 58 or about 1 hour and 30 minutes via expressway. Ogimi Village and the neighboring villages of Kunigami and Higashi are called the three villages of Yanbaru (Yanbaru means "the forested northern area of Okinawa"), which was recognized as a World Natural Heritage site in 2021, and is home to many endemic species that can only be seen here, such as the Okinawa rail and Okinawa woodpecker. Photo:The Okinawa rail Ogimi Village is also called the "Village of Longevity," "Village of Bashofu," "Village of Shikuwasa," and "Village of Bunagaya." Ogimi Village, Known as the "Village of Longevity" Ogimi Village is known as the village with the highest longevity in Japan, with a very high percentage of the total population aged 65 years or older (32.5%) as well as people who are 90 years old or older (4.2%), according to the 2015 census. ※The percentage of people over 90 years old in Japan as a whole is 1.6%. Photo:An elderly man in Ogimi Village In 1987, the area was declared the "Village of Longevity" as the area with the highest percentage of elderly people in Japan, and in 1996, it was recognized as the "World's Longest Living Region" by the World Health Organization (WHO). The book "IKIGAI," published in Spain in 2016 and covering the secrets of longevity in Ogimi Village, became an international bestseller, selling more than 5 million copies. The text of the book introduces the ideal life as "the sight of a grandfather or grandmother living a vibrant and rewarding life in Ogimi Village." The book has led to an increase in the number of foreign tourists visiting Ogimi Village and in the number of foreigners who know about Ogimi Village even if they don't know much about Japan. Ogimi Village, the "Village of Bashofu" In Kijoka, an area in Ogimi Village, Kijoka Bashofu, a cloth woven from the fibers of the plantain plant, has long been popular as a fabric for kimono. It's considered a fantastic type of cloth because of how thin and light it is, almost like the wings of a dragonfly. In Okinawa, a place with high humidity, this breathable, light-as-air fabric has been very useful. It takes about three years to grow to a height taller than a person, and each stalk of plantain yields only about 20 grams of fiber, so 200 stalks are needed to weave one roll of Bashofu cloth. Photo:The plantain plant The history of Bashofu dates back to the 13th century, and during the Ryukyu Dynasty (approximately 450 years from the 1400s to the 1800s), there was a position called "Basho Toushoku" (芭蕉当職, lit. "Bashofu Manager") who managed a Basho garden exclusively for the nobility so that they could wear high-quality Bashofu. During the Meiji period (1868-1912), plain or striped Bashofu began to be decorated with kasuri patterns, and developed into a craft. Bashofu was designated an Intangible Cultural Property of the prefecture in 1972, the year Okinawa was returned to Japan, and two years later, in 1974, it was designated an Intangible Cultural Property by the Japanese government. Ogimi Village, the "Village of Shikuwasa" Most of the shikuwasa (flat lemons) distributed in Japan are produced in Okinawa, with Ogimi Village accounting for approximately 60% of the total. Photo:Shikuwasa Shikuwasa is a food rich in nutrients and is considered one of the foods for health and longevity in Okinawa. The nobiletin contained in shikuwasa is said to have the following effects: ・Helps prevent rheumatism, osteoporosis, and cancer ・Lowers blood sugar and blood pressure ・Burns fat, strengthens liver function, improves urination, and improves cognitive function ・Helps relieve complications from urinary disorders, such as frequent urination and enuresis. ・Helps prevent diabetes The secret to Ogimi Village's longevity may be its shikuwasa. Shikuwasa is one of the most popular Furusato Nozei tax return gifts as well. If you're a resident of Japan, be sure to visit the Ogimi Village Furusato Nozei website (※Japanese). Ogimi Village, the "Village of Bunagaya" It's said that Bunagaya, spirits of the forest, live in Yanbaru, a rich natural environment that has been registered as a World Natural Heritage site. Photo:A Bunagaya forest spirit These mysterious bunagaya are said to love peace and nature, and use nature's bounty to show us what they look like. Since World War II, due to the modernization of postwar reconstruction, it's said that they can only be seen in Ogimi Village. Bunagaya live amongst banyan trees and are said to have red hair and are covered with grass and trees. In 1998, Ogimi Village was declared the "Village of Bunagaya" to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Ogimi Village's establishment. Life in Ogimi Village is full of charms, from its longevity, traditional culture, and unique food, to its ancient legends.
