A Look at Some of the Leading Power Spots of Japan’s Kanto Region This video, titled “Hakone Shrine” (箱根神社), was uploaded by k_sada. It introduces Hakone Shrine, located on the shore of Lake Ashinoko in Hakone, Kanagawa. Hakone Shrine is a popular power spot that can be easily accessed from Japan’s Kanto region. The video covers every corner of Hakone shrine and is a must-see for anyone traveling to Hakone. Be sure to check it out and maybe a little luck will rub off on you as well! A Look at the Charms of Hakone Shrine Photo:Hakone Shrine's main shrine approach, Kanagawa Prefecture Hakone Shrine is famous as one of the most powerful power spots in Japan's Kanto region, and is said to improve one's luck for success, as well as bless people with economic fortune, wish fulfillment, success in marriage, love, and health. The main approach to the shrine, the fifth torii gate, Shinmon gate, the kagura hall, and the ceremony hall, all of which can be seen from 0:20 in the video, are also places we recommend stopping by when visiting Hakone Shrine. Popular spots that you won't want to pass up are Anzu-sugi (a cedar tree to pray for safe childbirth), Soga Shrine, the fourth torii gate, the Kagura Repository, the lake-bottom tree, the Ebisu Shrine, and the torii of peace. The History of Hakone Shrine and When It Was Built Photo:Ryujinsui at Kuzuryu Shrine, Kanagawa Prefecture Hakone Shrine has a long history, and it is even mentioned in books from the Kamakura Period (~1185-1333 AD). Many warlords have visited and worshipped in Hakone. In particular, Minamoto no Yoritomo is said to have worshipped at Hakone Shrine. It was burned down once by Toyotomi Hideyoshi, but the shrine’s main building was rebuilt by Tokugawa Ieyasu. A new shrine, which can be seen at 3:03 in the video, was built at Kuzuryu Shrine and many people still come to visit it today. Popular Tourist Spots Near Hakone Shrine Photo:A sightseeing ship on Lake Ashinoko, Kanagawa Prefecture In addition to the shrines, Hakone has many other tourist spots in the neighborhood. From Shinjuku, the Odakyu Line runs to Hakone-Yumoto, and the Odakyu Romancecar is a very popular train. It takes about 85 minutes to reach Hakone-Yumoto from Shinjuku. On weekends, many people enjoy the sightseeing boats on Lake Ashinoko and the hot springs where you can relax. In addition to the tourist attractions, we also recommend visiting festivals, such as the Hakone Shrine Setsubun Festival and the Kosui Festival. Hakone Shrine, Hakone Motomiya Shrine, and Kuzuryu Shrine are known as Hakone Sanja Mairi (箱根三社参り, Hakone Three Shrine Visit), and many people visit all three shrines. We also recommend picking up a shuin stamp and buying omamori charms for good luck and for souvenirs. Hakone, with its high elevation, has many viewpoints from which you can see Suruga Bay, the Izu Peninsula, Sagami Bay, and the Shonan coast when the weather is favorable. Summary of Hakone Shrine Photo:Hakone Shrine's torii gate This video introduced Hakone Shrine in Hakone, Kanagawa. Drone Footage of Kumamoto Castle's Reconstruction" (熊本地震から4年 修復作業続く熊本城をドローン撮影), was released by "Jiji Press Video Center" (時事通信映像センター) in 2020. Kumamoto Castle is a famous sightseeing spot in Kumamoto. It was damaged in the Kumamoto Earthquake that struck on April 14th, 2016 and reconstruction is currently ongoing. Reconstruction of the exterior of the large keep will be finished by 2020, and work on the interior of the large keep and small keep will continue through 2021. During the restoration period, the castle has a special viewing corridor, as shown at 1:05 of the video, where you can see a close look at the repairs taking place. The History and Characteristics of Kumamoto Castle Photo:Kumamoto Castle Kumamoto Castle, also known as Ginnan Castle, was built between the Azuchi-Momoyama period (1573-1598) and the Edo period (1603-1868) in Kumamoto, Akita, Higo as a flatland-mountain castle. After Kato Kiyomasa rebuilt the castle, it became the residence of the Hosokawa family of the Kumamoto Domain until the end of the Edo period. In the Meiji period (1868-1912), it was used as a battlefield for Satsuma Rebellion and as a school. The ruins of castle are designated as a national special historic site and the turret and gate which escaped the flames of the Satsuma Rebellion have been designated Important Cultural Properties. Condition of Reconstruction Photo:Restoration of Kumamoto Castle Kumamoto Castle was badly damaged in the 2016 earthquake. However, the castle barely survived, being supported by a single line of stone wall. This came to be called "The Stone Wall Miracle" and became a beacon of hope for the people affected by the disaster. The total cost of repairing Kumamoto Castle is estimated to be about 35.4 billion yen. If you donate more than 10,000 yen, you will receive a "Castle Lord Card" and "Castle Lord Certificate" and your name will be listed on the digital board. As of 2019, donations have exceeded 2 billion yen. The basic plan for reconstruction was created in 2018 and included "the early restoration of the castle tower, a symbol of reconstruction, and "a plan to lay the foundation to survive at least 100 years." Sightseeing Spots Around the Castle Photo:Kumamoto Castle and Cherry Blossoms The free guide "Omotenashi Busho" is very popular at Kumamoto Castle. You can enjoy cherry blossoms in the spring and autumn colors in the fall, which are very photogenic. There's also the exciting "Kumamoto Castle Marathon" in winter where you can run around the castle. Kato Shrine dedicated to Kato Kiyomasa and the Monogatari Goten on the second floor of the Kumamoto Museum Wakuwakuza are also a must-see. It introduces a breathtaking light up event at Okayama Castle in Okayama Prefecture. Okayama Castle is also known as "Crow Castle" or "Golden Crow Castle" because of its black lacquered appearance, and is designated as a National Historic Site. Three times a year at Okayama Castle (spring, summer, and autumn), a fantastic event called "Ujo-Tougenkyo" (summer) is held, and you can see the fantastical scenery in this 4K video. What Kind of Event Is Ujo Togenkyo, the Light Up Event at Okayama Castle? Photo:The Okayama Castle light up event, Okayama City, Okayama Prefecture Okayama Castle is often called "Crow Castle" after the black lacquered walls built at the order of Toyotomi Hideyoshi during the rule of the Ukita clan. Later, the lord of Okayama Castle changed from Kobayakawa Hideaki to the Ikeda clan, but its majestic appearance has remained unchanged and continues to delight visitors to the castle. In addition, Korakuen Garden was built when the Ikeda Clan ruled the castle, and visitors can still feel the relaxing atmosphere of that time. Ujo Tougenkyo is a seasonal light up event held at Okayama Castle. The theme of the event is "a soft light surrounding the castle," and the castle tower and its surroundings are lit up to the delight of many tourists every year. The area around the castle is decorated with paper lanterns, garden lanterns, and candles, and the scenery is nothing short of fantastic. You can see the beautiful, mystical scenery of Okayama Castle during the event throughout the video, including the trees surrounding the castle glowing in a variety of colors from 0:39 in the video. At the same time, an event called "Fantasy Garden" (幻想庭園, Genso Teien) is also held at Korakuen Garden on the other side of Okayama Castle. This light up event at Okayama Castle has become famous as a photogenic and Instagrammable event. More Exciting Highlights of Okayama Castle! Photo:The castle keep of Okayama Castle, Okayama City, Okayama Prefecture While the photogenic event "Ujo Tougenkyo" is indeed fascinating, Okayama Castle is a delight in itself. For example, the goshuin stamp of Okayama Castle (currently sold via post due to the renovation of Okayama Castle) and the "Top 100 Japanese Castles" stamp are very popular among history buffs and castle lovers. And what's more, visitors can enjoy lunch and delicious parfaits inside Okayama Castle's castle tower. At "Castle Tea House - Yuki" (お城茶屋ゆき, Oshiro Chaya Yuki) in Okayama Castle's castle tower, visitors can enjoy both food and a variety of sweet treats. In particular, the popular "castle parfait" was depicted in the famous anime "Detective Conan" (Case Closed) with scenes of Conan and Kogoro Mouri eating it, sparking its popularity. Okayama Castle is currently closed for renovation in preparation for its renewal/reopening in November 2022. However, to coincide with the renovation, a new logo using the family crest was unveiled, and the duo "Okayama Ninja" appeared at events in and around the city, donning their black and gold gear to liven up Okayama Castle. Summary of "Ujo Tougenkyo," the Breathtaking Light Up Event at Okayama Castle Photo:Okayama Castle, Okayama City, Okayama Prefecture Ujo Tougenkyo is a fantastical, photogenic event that is sure to delight any visitor to Okayama Castle. Nanao Castle – An Introductory Video on One of the Top 100 Castles of Japan This video, titled "Nanao Castle in ISHIKAWA, JAPAN / #34 of the Top 100 Castles of Japan|4K" (【石川/日本100名城】七尾城/難攻不落の天宮 4K - Nanao castle in ISHIKAWA, JAPAN / The Top 100 Castles in Japan No.34 -), was uploaded by "channel WASABI." Introduces the ruins of Nanao Castle, a mountain castle in Nanao, Ishikawa, in Japan's Koshinetsu region, in beautiful 4K quality! Nanao Castle, one of the Top 100 Castles of Japan and a Nationally Designated Historic Site, is located at an elevation of 300m, overlooking Nanao Bay and the Noto Peninsula from the honmaru (inner citadel). Nanao Castle was considered an impregnable fortress during its prime, and you can still see the stone walls where the major parts of the castle were previously located. In this article, we'll introduce tourist information and travel tips for anyone planning to visit Nanao Castle. The video introduces the breathtaking scenery of Nanao Castle, a vast area located on a mountain ridge in the forests of Japan. For those who have studied or are interested in Japanese history, it paints a good picture of what the Sengoku Period (Japan's warring states period; around 1467 - 1615 AD) was like. Exploring the History of Nanao Castle Photo:Nanao Castle inner bailey ruins, Nanao, Ishikawa Nanao Castle is a mountain castle with a "kuruwa" (castle wall) on each of the seven ridges: Matsuo, Takeo, Umeo, Kikuo, Kameo, Torao, Tatsuo. There are still references that show it was also referred to as "Matsuo Castle," written both "松尾城" and "末尾城" (same pronunciation different kanji/spelling). Nanao Castle was built in the first half of the 16th century as the residence of the Hatakeyama Clan, a Japanese samurai clan who governed the province of Noto. It is a fortified castle that is said to be one of the Five Great Mountain Castles of Japan, and it fell after a roughly year-long battle with Uesugi Kenshin's forces. After that, Oda Nobunaga appointed Maeda Toshiie as Lord of Noto giving him the castle, however, after Toshiie moved to Kanazawa Castle, Nanao Castle was abandoned. Nanao Castle - Highlights and Tourist Information Photo:The view from Nanao Castle, Nanao, Ishikawa Nanao Castle is a large mountain castle. Highlights of Nanao Castle include the many stone walls that remain in nearly the same condition they were in hundreds of years ago, as well as the scenery of Nanao Bay and the Noto Peninsula which can be seen from the top of the mountain. The climbing route to reach Nanao Castle is covered with wood chips, but we recommended wearing shoes that are easy to walk in. If you want to climb from the foot of the mountain, you can use the Nanao Castle Trailhead Parking Lot (七尾城登山口駐車場), or you can park your car in the parking lot of the Nanao Castle History Museum and purchase a Nanao Castle Seal Stamp or a memorial stamp of the Top 100 Castles of Japan before starting your hike. At the Nanao Castle History Museum, visitors can explore exhibits such as excavated items related to Nanao Castle and reconstructions of Nanao Castle via computer generated architecture. In addition, the Nationally Registered Cultural Property "Kaikokan" (the former Iida family residence), which is adjacent to the museum, is another tourist attraction worth checking out. The time required to climb the mountain is about ~40 minutes from the parking lot of the Nanao Castle History Museum, following the formerly used road to the honmaru (inner citadel) ruins. There is also a 150-minute course for those looking to really explore and conquer the vast grounds of Nanao Castle. Photo:Nanao Station If you visit Nanao Castle via public transportation, you can reach the Nanao Castle History Museum from "Nanao Station" on the JR Nanao Line by taking the city circuit bus "Marin-go" (まりん号) and getting off at "Joyama no Sato" (城山の里). From there it's about a 60-minute walk. The stone wall of the Sakurababa Bailey Ruins above Chodo-maru (a former weapon's warehouse) is shown at 0:40 in the video, and the stone wall of the Honmaru Ruins at 2:42 are some of the highlights of Nanao Castle. There's also a shrine in the honmaru, and the scenery you can see from the Nanao Joyama Observatory, which is known to have been praised by Uesugi Kenshin, is shown at 3:52 in the video. Summary of the Nanao Castle Ruins This video, titled "Nanao Castle in ISHIKAWA, JAPAN / #34 of the Top 100 Castles of Japan|4K," introduces Nanao Castle, a formerly impregnable mountain castle in Ishikawa Prefecture, in beautiful 4K. Introducing Okazaki Castle, the Birthplace of the Gods The video this time is titled "[Touken World] 'Okazaki Castle'|Swords and Armor|Sword and Armor Displays in the Castle|YouTube Video" (【刀剣ワールド】「岡崎城」刀剣・甲冑に会える城|刀剣・甲冑展示の城郭 YouTube動画), released by "Virtual Sword Museum 'Touken World'." It introduces Okazaki Castle at Okazaki Park in Okazaki City, Aichi Prefecture, in Japan's Tokai region. Okazaki Castle is known as the birthplace of Tokugawa Ieyasu, and is famous for being the base of operations for Tokugawa Ieyasu, who returned to Mikawa (present-day Aichi Prefecture) after the Battle of Okehazama and used it as his base for unifying the country. This Okazaki Castle was deified as "the birthplace of the gods," and the Daimyo who became the lords of Okazaki Castle were proud to serve as its ruler. As you can see from 1:33 in the video, there are various exhibits of swords and armor related to Okazaki Castle. One of the most famous swords from the Muromachi period (1336-1573), "Kanemoto," with its impressive temper, resembling majestic mountains, can be seen at 1:51 in the video. At the The Ieyasu And Mikawa Bushi Museum in Okazaki Park, which can be seen at 2:09 in the video, visitors can learn about the history of the Matsudaira family, the ancestors of the Tokugawa family, from their beginnings to the unification of the Tokugawa family. A Kindami Gusoku (type of body armor), made of gold leaf, is also on display. A Look at Okazaki Castle Photo:Okazaki Castle Okazaki Castle is a Japanese castle located in the Mikawa Kuni Okazaki Domain (present-day Kosei Town, Okazaki City, Aichi Prefecture). Also known as "Ryujo," it was owned by the Matsudaira family during the Warring States period (1467-1615 AD) until the Azuchi-Momoyama period (1573-1598 AD). Okazaki Castle is said to have been built by Saigo Tsuguyori, a descendant of the Niki clan in Mikawa Province, and his son Yoritsugu Saigo At that time, it was called "Ryuzu Castle." Tokugawa Ieyasu was born inside the castle in 1542. Therefore, it is called the birthplace of Tokugawa Ieyasu. In the Edo period (1603 to 1868), it was written as "岡竒城" as oppsed to the current kanji "岡崎城" (same pronunciation). After the Meiji Restoration (1853-1867 AD), most of the castle wall at Okazaki Castle was demolished, but in 1959 the castle tower was restored to a three-layer, five-story building, and in 2006 it was listed as one of "Japan's Top 100 Castles." You can get to Okazaki Castle by foot from Meitetsu Higashi Okazaki Station or Okazaki Koen Station, or by local bus from Okazaki Koenmae Bus Stop. This 3-kilometer-long line that connects Okazaki Castle and Daiju-ji is known as the Vista Line, and it has been preserved for 370 years as a historical spot and a historical view. In modern times, the Vista Line has been drawn using laser light, and an event called the "Vista Line of Light" has also been held. Facilities Around Okazaki Castle Photo:Cherry blossoms at Okazaki Castle Okazaki Park, where Okazaki Castle is located, is famous for its cherry blossoms, and has been selected as one of the top 100 cherry blossom sites in Japan. Kurama-Dera Temple, Standing Quietly in the Midst of Nature in Kyoto. This Mysterious Mountain Protected by Tengu Is Full of Power Spots!
Art & Architecture- 81 plays
- YouTube
A Look at Kurama-dera Temple This video, titled "Kurama-dera Temple - Kyoto - 鞍馬寺," was created by "TokyoStreetView - Japan The Beautiful." Kurama-dera Temple can be found in Kyoto, a place popular as a scenic sightseeing destination. The temple stands quietly in the midst of nature. The temple, located in Kurama, Sakyo Ward, Kyoto City, Kyoto Prefecture, is famous for being the training ground of Minamoto no Yoshitsune and is also the stage for the Noh play Kurama-tengu. The temple has a long history, first founded 650 years ago by Gantei (鑑禎), a disciple of the monk Ganjin (鑑真). Gantei was also known as Sonten (尊天). In the Buddhist world, "Sonten" refers to the trinity of Bishamonten, Senju Kannon, and Goho Mao (also known as Vaisravana, Avalokitesvara, and Sanat Kurama). Thus, it can be deduced that Gantei was a prolific monk. The temple’s principal image is the statue of Bishamonten, and the current Kurama-dera temple is the main temple of the Kurama Sect. The history of Kurama-dera Temple in Kyoto Photo:Kuramadera Temple, Kyoto One day, Gantei had a dream in which he was told that there was a sacred mountain in the north of Yamashiro Province. In that mountain, he met a white horse with a precious saddle. The white horse that appeared on the mountain was the origin of the name Kurama for the temple. The mountain was later named for the temple, becoming Kurama Mountain. There is also a legend called the Konjaku Monogatarishu that the god of Kifune Shrine (貴船神社, kifune jinja) near Kurama-dera Temple appeared in front of Fujiwara no Isendo (藤原伊勢人) and instructed him to build a temple enshrining Bishamonten and Senju Kannon. This is another legend of the origins of Kurama-dera Temple. What is the principal image of Kurama Mountain, "Sonten"? Photo:Kuramadera Temple Maoden, Kyoto Sonten refers to the monk Gantei, as well as the trinity of Bishamonten, Senju Kannon, and Goho Mao. Bishamonten is one of the four heavenly kings of the Buddhist faith, and is also believed to be a symbol of light and a deity of the sun. Senju Kannon is the deity of love, a personification of the moon, and has a yin-yang relationship with Bishamonten. Goho Mao symbolizes power, and is a personification of the Earth. It is believed that the union of these three deities connect the heavenly realm and the mortal realm. Although Goho Mao is not very well-known, in actuality, the legend of the tengu of Mt. Kurama as well as throughout Japan is actually referring to Goho Mao. Goho Mao descended from Venus to the earth 6.5 million years ago, and is said to have immense power. In Japan, the place where Goho Mao landed is believed to be Mt. Kurama. Due to the mighty spiritual power of Goho Mao, Mt. Kurama became a significant power spot. During the Heian Period (794-1185), the mountain was one of the sacred sites for Shugendo. Highlights of Kurama-dera Temple Photo:Kuramadera Temple, Kyoto Kurama-dera Temple is full of mysteries. Here, we'll introduce some charming areas of the temple. ・ Niomon Gate (仁王門, niomon): The entrance to Kurama-dera Temple ・ Genjosui (環浄水, genjosui): Holy water for purification, protected by the statue of the Bodhisattva Kannon. Visitors must purify themselves before entering to worship. ・ Aun Tiger (阿吽の虎, aun no tora): At Kurama-dera Temple, rather than a komainu lion-dog, a stone statue of a tiger is enshrined as a talisman. Since ancient times, tigers have been considered to be divine beasts which can ward off evil spirits. This can be seen from 1:42 in the video. ・ Kongosho (金剛床, kongosho): A stone floor inscribed with a hexagram in front of the main shrine. The hexagram is an important symbol in the practice of onmyodo (the way of yin and yang). ・ Kondo Main Hall (本殿金堂, honden kondo): Where the principal deities are enshrined. ・ Central Dojo (中心道場, chushin dojo): The training area for monks. ・ Reihoden (霊宝殿, reihoden): Records of the flora and fauna of Mt. Kurama as well as the Yosano Memorial are on display. ・ Tohakutei (冬柏亭): The study of Akiko Yosano. The original building was relocated from Tokyo. ・ Wesaku Festival (ウエサク祭, uesaku-sai): A festival held during the full moon in May every year. ・ Maoden (魔王殿, maoden): The inner temple where Goho Mao is enshrined. ・ Lanterns (灯籠, toro): Lanterns line the stone steps leading from Kurama-dera Temple to Kifune Shrine. The Kifune Momiji Lantern illumination is a fall tradition. During the fall foliage season, the crew of the Mount Kurama Cable Railway will serve customers in samue clothing. ・ Yojuji: A restaurant located on Mount Kurama. At lunch time, it's bustling with worshipers from Kurama-dera Temple. ・ Shuin: Red stamp. Popular as a memento of your visit to Kurama-dera Temple and Kifune Shrine. Summary of Kurama-dera Temple Photo:Autumn leaves at Kuramadera Temple, Kyoto As parking is unavailable, we recommend using the Eizan Electric Railway. Visitors can walk or take a cable car from Niomon Gate to the main hall. Along the mountain climbing route, you can enjoy the various sights and vast expanses of nature. Definitely make some time to visit Mt. Kurama if you go sightseeing in Kyoto. Udo Shrine - Enjoy the Power and Healing of This Historic Shrine Located on a Rocky Cliff in Miyazaki Prefecture, in 4K!

Udo Shrine in Nichinan, Miyazaki Prefecture This video, titled "4K 鵜戸神宮 宮崎県 Udo Shrine Miyazaki, Kyushu JAPAN," was released by "Shiso Productions." Udo Shrine is a shrine located in Nichinan, Miyazaki Prefecture, in Japan's Kyushu region and was previously classified as a Kanpei Taisha (imperial shrine); however, in the present it is designated as a Beppyo Jinja (a shrine designated and tracked by the Jinja Honcho (Association of Shinto Shrines). As you can see from 7:04 in the video, the main shrine is enshrined in a rock cave (sea cave) on the cliffside facing the Hyuga-nada Sea (日向灘). In order to worship at the shrine, you need to go down the stone steps along the cliff, making it a rather rare shrine, as most shrines require you to walk up to them. In this article, we'll introduce Udo Shrine in Nichinan, Miyazaki Prefecture. A Look at Udo Shrine in Nichinan, Miyazaki Prefecture? The History of the Shrine Photo:Udo Shrine in Nichinan, Miyazaki Prefecture Udo Shrine is famous as a sacred place for worshipping the sea, and the rock cave where Udo Shrine is enshrined is said to be the place where Princess Toyotama built a birth hut to deliver the deity, Ugayafukiaezu. From that relation, the 6 pillar gods were enshrined here during the reign of Emperor Sujin under the name of "Rokusho Gongen" (roughly "the six manifestations of Buddha") and during the reign of Emperor Suiko, it is said that a shrine was built in the rock cave and named Udo Shrine. Sightseeing at Udo Shrine in Nichinan, Miyazaki Prefecture Photo:The petting rabbit at Udo Shrine, Miyazaki Prefecture ① Lucky Shimenawa (福注連縄) The shimenawa rope at the entrance of Udo Shrine is used to purify the body and remove any impurities. ② Petting Rabbit (撫でウサギ) It is said that by petting the rabbit associated with Udo Shrine, wishes for recovery from illness, good luck, and success will come true. ③ Shuinchō Seen at 10:48 in the video, this is the red stamp book that shows the characteristics of the shrine. We recommend getting one along with an omikuji to commemorate your trip. Sightseeing Around Udo Shrine in Nichinan, Miyazaki Prefecture Photo:Kameishi, a sacred stone at Udo Shrine, Miyazaki Prefecture The main shrine of Udo Shrine is built in a natural cave. Its charm lies also in the surrounding scenery. The magnificent view of the natural scenery, such as the blue sky and the azure sea combined with the vivid, scarlet-painted shrine gate and tower gate is, in a word, splendid. In addition, there's "Ochichi-Iwa," which looks like a woman's breast and is famous for praying for safe childbirth, and the so-called milk water dripping from it. There's also a sacred stone shaped like a turtle with an indent on its back, and it's said that if you're a man you throw an "undama" (lucky ball) with your left hand and if you're a woman, you throw it with your right hand, and if you manage to throw it into the indent perfectly it's said to make your wishes come true. There's also Haccho-zaka, an 800-meter long stone staircase that leads from the port of Fukigei to the gate of the shrine. It's the oldest stone stairway approach to a shrine and has strange rocks such as "Futahashira-iwa" and "Mifune-iwa." "Udo Senjojikikigan" on the south side of Udo, where Udo Shrine is enshrined, is another spot we highly recommend. It is a stratum (Neogene Miyazaki Formation) that was deposited from 1,000 years ago to 1 million years ago and is characterized by the repeated accumulation of hard sandstone layers and soft mudstone layers. Over the years, it has been exposed to the harsh waves and winds and rain of the Hyuga-nada Sea and has been eroded to its present appearance. The wavy rocks created in this way are also known as the "Devil's Washing Rock" or "Devil's Washboard" and have been designated a cultural property by Miyazaki Prefecture. The Values and Customs of Udo Shrine in Nichinan, Miyazaki Prefecture Photo:Ochichi-Iwa at Udo Shrine, Miyazaki Prefecture Udo Shrine also has two legendary boulders called "Ochichi-Iwa" and "Hikikiri-Iwa" and are said to have aided Princess Toyotama when she was breastfeeding her children. Both are places of worship for people who wish for safe childbirth and child rearing. At Udo Shrine, there is an event called Shanshan-Uma, which is a tradition of Miyazaki that was held from the middle of the Edo Period (1603-1868 AD) to the end of the Meiji period. On a steep and difficult road called Nanaura Nana Touge, the bride rides upon a horse with the groom taking the reins and heads for Udo Shrine. This custom has disappeared, but it is held as a sightseeing event to reproduce what it may have looked like at the time. Summary of Udo Shrine in Nichinan, Miyazaki Prefecture Photo:Udo Shrine in Nichinan, Miyazaki Prefecture In 2017, the Udozaki area became a nationally designated scenic spot called "Udo," and the locals refer to Udo Shrine as "Udo-san." Aside from being a beautiful scenic spot, it is also a popular power spot and Instagrammable tourist destination. You can enjoy various famous sightseeing spots, such as Udoyama Magaibutsu, Udoyama Haccho-zaka, Udoyama Magaibutsu and the Nichinan Coast just by strolling around the area. Shanshan Umadou Chu-uta Taikai is a singing event in which visitors compete in singing a traditional Japanese folk song. The event is held in March every year, so if you are thinking of sightseeing at Udo Shrine consider visiting during the event. 【Tripadvisor】Udo Shrine https://www.tripadvisor.com/Attraction_Review-g1023424-d1238711-Reviews-Udo_Shrine-Nichinan_Miyazaki_Prefecture_Kyushu.html -

Photo:Nishi Honganji Temple, Kyoto, Japan At the beginning of the video, viewers can see a map of Nishi Honganji Temple and its surrounding area. Nishi Honganji Temple is a popular tourist spot that we highly recommend visiting when traveling in Kyoto. It is the head temple of the Honganji school of the Jodo Shinshu sect, and its official name is "Ryukokuzan Honganji." It is called Nishi Honganji (lit. "west Hongaji") to distinguish it from Higashi Honganji (lit. "east Hongaji") of the Shinshu Otani school. The History of Nishi Honganji Temple Photo:Otani Honbyo, Higashiyama, Kyoto The history of Nishi Honganji Temple dates back to 1272, when it was built as a mausoleum for Shinran Shonin. Shinran Shonin's burial place was simple at first, but then Otani Honbyo was built by monks. In addition to Shinran Shonin, many of his followers from all over Japan are buried here, and memorial services are held regularly. It is a part of the same sect as Higashi Honganji, and the sutras used are also the same. In Kagoshima Prefecture, there's Honganji Kagoshima Betsuin, another temple belonging to the same school of Buddhism. Basho no Sato - A Popular Sightseeing Destination in Otawara, Tochigi This video, titled "JG☆☆8K HDR 栃木 芭蕉の里 黒羽 大雄寺(重文) Tochigi,Kurobane Daioji(Cultural Property)," was created by "JAPAN GEOGRAPHIC." Matsuo Basho, a poet active during the Edo period (1603 AD - 1868 AD), is one of the most famous haiku poets in Japanese history. Many of the locations and buildings mentioned in his poetry collection "Oku no Hosomichi" (奥の細道) (often translated as "The Narrow Road to the Deep North") have become famous tourist spots in Japan. Basho no Sato Kurobane (芭蕉の里黒羽), introduced in the video, is one such tourist spot, located in Otawara, Tochigi. There are several famous spots in Basho no Sato, such as Daioji Temple, which belongs to the Soto school of Buddhism (曹洞宗), as well as Kurobane Fukushi Park (黒羽福祉公園), and Kurobane Basho no Yakata (芭蕉の館). Daioji Temple was built in 1404, giving it a long history dating back more than 600 years. Matsuo Basho's poetry collection "Oku no Hosomichi" is an important piece of classical Japanese literature that is famous both in Japan as well as overseas. His journey, which covers all areas of Japan, was no easy feat. He would often walk several kilometers a day, writing haiku poems at many of his destinations. However, he is said to have spent two full weeks in Kurobane, Tochigi (featured in the video) with his disciple. Areas such as Nikko (日光) and Nasu (那須) in Tochigi prefecture are famous for their beautiful autumn foliage. The areas surrounding Kurobane Castle (黒羽城) and Daioji Temple also turn beautiful shades of red in autumn and are covered with peonies and irises. The picturesque scenery is sure to have tugged at the heart strings of Matsuo Basho. Daioji Temple has been preserved in its original form since 1448. At the time, the temple was known as "Kurobanesan Kuonin Daioji" (黒羽山久遠院大雄寺). Summary of Basho no Sato Source :YouTube screenshot Tochigi prefecture was an area Matsuo Basho was particularly fond of. At Makomanai Takino Cemetery, you can also see a vast landscape of lavender hills with more than 15 thousand lavenders. This dramatic Hill of the Buddha, standing at the top of a dome-shaped slope, was designed by Ando Tadao, a famous architect, in 2016 to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Makomanai Takino Cemetery. It is made up of 57 parts, which were selected and processed from 4,000 tons of unpolished stones. It is 13.5 meters high and weighs 1,500 tons. Initially, it was called “Mitama Kuyo Daibutsu.” You can see the Great Buddha in its entirety from 0:08 in the video. The construction of the Hill of the Buddha began in October 2013 and finished in 2016. As you can see from 0:56 in the video, the hardest part of this project was growing the 15 thousand lavenders. With the advice of lavender farmers and the help of volunteers, they succeeded in growing the lavenders from seed. It took about three years to build the Hill of the Buddha, and the construction process can be seen from 1:31 in the video. Makomanai Takino Cemetery's Hill of the Buddha Source :YouTube screenshot The Hill of the Buddha at Makomanai Takino Cemetery, Sapporo, Hokkaido, features the Great Buddha poking his head out from the lavender hill. According to the architect Ando Tadao, the purpose of this is to emphasize the gratitude of the Great Buddha as “that which you cannot see stimulates the imagination.” As you can see from 4:07 in the video, there is an approach with lavenders when entering Makomanai Takino Cemetery. There is also a water garden, which is a bypass of the pathway behind the approach. The water is a boundary to purify mind and to awaken the extraordinary. After going through the water garden, there is a tunnel that goes through the hill, which is shown at 4:25 in the video. The tunnel represents the womb and is lined with concrete folds. You can see the Great Buddha as you pass through the tunnel, and the panoramic view of the Buddha, which you can see along the 135-meter walk, is even more impressive. The light from the sky lights up the Buddha and surrounds you with artistic scenery. Learn About the Construction Process at the Gallery and Café Source :YouTube screenshot Next to the water-basin, there is a gallery where you can see the construction process of the Hill of the Buddha. Kyu-Iwasaki-tei Gardens: The Beautiful Building in Taito City, Tokyo That Left Its Mark on the Architectural History of Japan. This Is Where Japan's Modern Architectural Culture Began!
Art & Architecture Travel- 100 plays
- YouTube
What is Kyu-Iwasaki-tei Gardens? This video, titled "Kyu-Iwasaki-tei Gardens – Area Information|Video Website|Machi Log," introduces Kyu-Iwasaki-tei Gardens, a wooden, European-style building that was built more than 120 years ago in 1896 (year 29 of Meiji), for the founder of Mitsubishi, Hisaya Iwasaki. Due to the dissolution of the zaibatsu, as directed by SCAP after the war, the Iwasaki Family residence was requisitioned and they lost much of the buildings and garden; however it was later returned to the Japanese government. Presently, there are 3 buildings left, the Western-style building (main building), the billiard room, and the Japanese-style building. They are designated as important cultural properties. The building itself was designed by the Englishman, Josiah Conder. An authentic, wooden, Western-style 2 story building with a basement was very rare at the time and it is said to have eventually had a large influence on modern day Japanese housing. All of the Kyu-Iwasaki-tei Gardens is open to the public as a metropolitan garden, and there is also a café there so it's teeming with people during lunchtime or seasons in which you can see the cherry blossoms and autumn foliage. The elegant Western-style building is also used for filming many TV dramas and movies thanks to its beautiful appearance. The Highlights of Kyu-Iwasaki-tei Gardens Source :YouTube screenshot There are so many points of interest at Kyu-Iwasaki-tei Gardens that we couldn't possibly cover them in one go. The architecture of the semi-Western mansion representing the wealthy of the Meiji era (1868-1912) immediately after the opening of the country, is considered to be a very modern style even by present-day standards. When you enter the house, the decorations, including vines wrapping around the wooden columns, catch one's eyes immediately. This particular design is called Jacobian-style architecture and was very popular in 19th century England. This can be seen from 1:10 in the video. The wooden billiards room is designed in the style of a Swiss mountain hut, which was rare in Japan at that time. The Japanese-style building, which was used by Hisaya Iwasaki, was decorated with screen paintings by the great Japanese artist, Masakuni Hashimoto. The billiards room can be seen at 1:58, and the Japanese-style building can be seen at 2:33 in the video. Finally, the greatest highlight of Kyu-Iwasaki-tei Gardens is the rose garden that colors the entire lawn. In autumn, the Autumn Festival is held, and the scent of its roses fill the entire Kyu-Iwasaki-tei Gardens, captivating the many visitors. On the other hand, the serene Japanese-style garden has the look of a traditional Japanese garden, with garden stones, lanterns, and artificial miniature hills. At tea ceremonies, you can enjoy tea and Japanese confectioneries while enjoying the scenic nature of the seasons at the beautiful Kyu-Iwasaki-tei Gardens. After the Meiji Restoration, due to the abolition of feudal domains and the establishment of prefectures in 1871, the Takada Domain was dissolved and it became the property of the former Maizuru clan governor, Sukeshige Makino. However, it was bought by Yataro Iwasaki who was part of a zaibatsu, and the 3rd generation head of that family, Hisaya Iwasaki, built Kyu-Iwasaki-tei. After the war, the zaibatsu were dissolved by SCAP, the building became government controlled, and was managed by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government. It is indeed a monument that has survived a tumultuous history to the present day. Sunpu Castle, Built by Tokugawa Ieyasu, One of the Three Unifiers of Japan! The video, titled "Top 100 Castles of Japan|Sunpu Castle," was created by "castle shrine." It introduces Sunpu Castle in Aoi, Shizuoka, Shizuoka. Sunpu Castle is a castle built by Tokugawa Ieyasu and has been chosen as one of Japan’s Top 100 Castles. The castle is also called Fuchu Castle and Shizuoka Castle. During the Edo period (1603 to 1868), the Sunpu domain and head of Sunpu Castle were established. At present, the site of the inner citadel and the ruins of the outer citadel have been transformed into Sunpu Castle Park. Public facilities such as the prefectural government office and the Shizuoka District Legal Affairs Office are located in the outermost area of the castle. About Sunpu Castle and Its History Photo:Sunpu Castle Ruins park・Statue of Tokugawa Ieyasu Shizuoka City in Shizuoka Prefecture was ruled around the 14th century by the Imagawa clan, the Suruga Protectorate of the Muromachi Shogunate. In 1585, Tokugawa Ieyasu, the ruler of Suruga, moved the castle from Hamamatsu Castle to the present site and began to build Surpu Castle in 1585. Sunpu Castle was completed in 1589, but Tokugawa Ieyasu was transferred to Kanto by order of Toyotomi Hideyoshi, and Nakamura Kazuuji became the lord of the castle. In 1605, Tokugawa Ieyasu handed over the title of Shogunate to Tokugawa Hidetada, who designated Sunpu the seat of government for the imperial family. He expanded Sunpu Castle and laid the foundation for the present-day cityscape by dividing Sunpu Castle Town into sections and creating a flood control project for the Abe River. In honor of his career, a bronze statue of Tokugawa Ieyasu was erected in the castle. It can be seen at 2:43 in the video. The interior of Sunpu Castle has been extensively reconstructed, and in 2016, an excavation of the castle tower was carried out to determine the condition of the tower's stone walls and to collect academic data. You can see the site of the excavation work at 2:50 in the video. Highlights of Sunpu Castle Photo:Sunpu Castle There are a lot of things to see at Sunpu Castle. The East Gate, which can be seen at 1:39 in the video, was restored in 1996. Tatsumi Tower, reconstructed in 1989, is one of the few castles in Japan with an L-shaped layout, and was an effective turret for the protection of Sunpu Castle. The complex waterway of the Ninomaru channel, which was discovered during research, is another highlight of the castle. Hitsujisaru Yagura is located in the southwest of Sunpu Castle's Outer Citadel Tower Although it looks like a double-roofed building, it is actually three stories high, and at the time it was used to defend against attacking enemies as an armory and a lookout. At the end of March 2014, it was restored using traditional wooden construction methods from that time period. All of the flooring and ceiling material on each floor have been removed, and some of it is glass, so you can see the subfloor structure of the tower. There's also Jodai Bridge and the Outer Citadel Gate too! You can also experience VR in the space-time room. At the attached Momijiyama Park, you can experience the atmosphere of a daimyo's garden. In spring, you can enjoy a cup of tea while admiring the seasonal changes in the cherry blossoms and other flowers. In the garden's teahouse, you can enjoy a variety of events such as tea ceremony, flower arranging, and haiku. Sunpu Castle General Information Photo:Mt.
