Nanki Shirahama is in Shirahama Town, Wakayama Prefecture, in Japan's Kansai Region. It is one of the most famous beach resorts in Western Japan and many tourists visit there every year. The ‘Nanki’ in Nanki Shirahama has been added in order to distinguish it from Shirahama Resort in Chiba Prefecture and Shizuoka Prefecture. The Shirahama Town area has been called ‘Nanki’ since long ago. No one knows since when, but people started to call the area Nanki Shirahama.

There are many tourist attractions in Nanki Shirahama.
You can enjoy the sandy Shirahama (white beach), and the world-famous Adventure World, where they run a successful Giant Panda breeding program.
You can also see dolphins swimming in front of you if you catch a dolphin show at Adventure World.

Other attractions include Engetsu Island and Senjojiki which are symbolic of Shirahama, and Sandanbeki Cave which is said to have been a secret fort in the Heian period. Our recommendation for both dining and souvenirs is Toretore Market, known as the largest seafood market in Western Japan.
It is run by the local Fishery Association of Katata. They pride themselves on the flavor and freshness of their products.

Nanki Shirahama’s famous food is definitely the elusive luxury fish "Kue."
Kue is a brand name fish that was successfully farmed for the first time in the world in 20 years, and you can enjoy Kuei nabe, sashimi, tempura, and more at restaurants in the Nanki Shirahama area.
